Total beatdown by Alcaraz. It was a good run for Felix but this match showed that he's still got a way to go.

He's not alone as the chasm between Charlie and the rest of the tour appears to be getting wider. Sinner is trying his best to stay in touch but once Novak hangs up his racquet, who else will be challenging Alcaraz?

so what are we watching, is this prime Carlos, or does he follow the normal aging curve and we see his best tennis at the next Olympics?

He only just turned 21 so I don't think he's close to his prime as he still has bouts of inconsistency at times and his serve will get better in the coming years. When he's on his game IMO he's just as good as the big 3.

We have our first medal in Olympic tennis since the Sydney Olympics in 2000 when Daniel Nestor and Sebastien Lareau won gold in men's doubles. Congrats to Felix and Gaby on winning bronze in mixed doubles!!

Code violation, audible obscenity, Mr. Djokovic.

Speaking of audible obscenity, Shapo was just defaulted in his match versus Shelton for swearing at a fan. I'm reading he also loses all prize money and more importantly a bunch of ranking points for his work this week in DC. That stings.

Yeah, this is on the umpire as well as the ushers for letting people in during the 2nd set tie-break at 3-3. It's not a changeover, the players are just switching ends.

Even Shelton told the umpire that he heard the spectator swear at Shapo first causing his reply. Unfortunately the umpire despite fully admitting not hearing what the spectator said decided he was going to put his mark on the tournament. Really unfortunate for Dennis.

Rublev appealed his DQ in Dubai earlier this year and got back his prize money and ranking points, Shapo needs to appeal and hopefully the same will happen in this case. At worse, the umpire should have given Denis a point penalty that would have awarded the match to Shelton, but Denis still keeps the prize money (53 grand) but more importantly the ranking points that he earned this week in DC.

Musetti just too good in the end as he takes the bronze 6-4 1-6 6-3 over Felix. FAA played some excellent tennis today, Musetti has just been on a roll over the last couple of months and was just a little better in the end. Incredible stuff from Felix this week though, just what he needed going into the hard court season.

This legit might be the most impressive match of Djokovic's career, I'm in awe at the caliber I'm watching right now

What can you say, Novak stepped up and rose to the occasion. Just amazing stuff from both guys, Novak hit some incredible shots in the 2nd set tie-break to win gold.

Djokovic has never played better than today, what a win by him. Carlos played really well today too, he would have beat anyone else in the world today but when Djokovic locks in he's impossible to beat.

The difference between them in those tiebreaks is something that only being on tour for 21 years can teach. You could audibly hear how much faith Djoker had in his swings, and how much Alcaraz’s had faded. If that’s Nole’s last big gift to tennis, what a gift it was.

Watching on TSN and Bruce Rainnie mentioning how Mats Wilander recently said that Charlie has the best forehand he's ever seen and then seeing Novak rip a couple of the best forehands I've ever seen in that 2nd set tie-break.

Oh wow, I can't believe Djokovic managed to pull this out! Incredible!
At this age, against this opponent, with an injury, facing the ghosts of past failures, wow.

Joao Fonseca update - He won the Lexington Challenger event earlier today, I watched some highlights and man he is looking good. Up to a career high ranking of #166 and I have to think he's getting a wild card to play the US Open.
