In doubles action today, Felix/Shapo with a very nice win over the Colombian duo of Farah/Cabal 7-6 7-6. Gaby Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani also won their match over Sofia Kenin and Madga Linette (needed a super breaker which they won 10-7).

Good news everyone - Bianca is on court about to start and TSN3 is airing the match.

Bianca takes the opening set 6-3 - Had a little bit of a scary moment where she got jammed on a half-volley and twinged her ankle, but it turned out to be minor (i.e. she walked it off).

Going the distance as Wang wins set 2 in a tie-break.

Edit: Boo!

Edit 2: Pretty great effort from Bianca coming from a month being away though.

Heck of a match between Felix and Duan Lajovic - Felix needs to hold to force a 3rd set tie-break.

Shaky service game, but Felix does force a 3rd set tie-break. Also, Fergus Murphy thinks everybody is there to see him.

Well, if you're going to try to win a 3rd set tie-break, you probably shouldn't fall behind 5-0. 11 double faults certainly doesn't help either.

Fire all Canadian serve coaches. Yes I know that's not really a thing, but still it must be done

As I thought this was just a really bad draw for Felix as Lajovic is on a career run right now playing as good as anyone on clay this season. Tough to face a guy like that coming in cold after taking time off. Still I'm not sure what's going on with Felix and Shapo's serve issues. These guys are double faulting their way out of tournaments.

Aslan Karatsev is a name we haven't heard in a while, but he has come through qualifying and won earlier today. Karatsev beat Struff in qualifying, Stuff got into Madrid as a lucky loser and beat Ben Shelton earlier today.

Mirra gets Sabalenka next - If she can get by Aryna, who knows how far she might go in Madrid. Also, it makes Leylah loss to Andreeva look not so bad in retrospect.

Shapo comes back from 4-1 down in the first set tie-break and rolls off six straight points to win the opening set.

We need a 3rd set as Zhang takes the second set 6-4. Just one bad service game was the difference, but at this level, that's sometimes all it takes.

Also, the new guy in Shapo's box today in Madrid is actually an old guy he worked with in his teenage years (Adriano Fuorivia). Not sure if this means that Polansky is no longer part of the team, but it's likely the case.

Leylah can just follow in Gaby's footsteps and become a doubles specialist...I kid, I kid, but there's something working well between her and Taylor.

Shapo with the break and serving at 4-2 in set 3.

Edit: Darn, Zhang breaks straight back. Denis played a very good game, Zhang just made some incredible shots.

Denis guarantees himself at worst a 3rd set tie-break.

Well, that was a very disappointing end. A shame because I thought Denis played very well today but that was a horrific tie-break.

Basically no Canadian since Milos has been able to serve the ball in the court. It's apparently the Achilles heel of Canadian tennis. It's mind boggling.
