That's it for the original members of The Band, they're all gone now.
Jesus. At least they left a hell of a musical legacy.

Yeah, they left their mark. All Canadians with the exception of Levon Helm. Well, all from Ontario. Windsor, Six Nations, Blayney, Stratford.
Everyone has their time, all these guys were once at the top of their game. Must have been a hell of a run when they were on the road at the peak of their powers, lot of talent.
Gotta appreciate it while we can, it all ends eventually. That's why I hit this thread all the time, good reminder to not take anything for granted.
Hudson had been in pretty rough shape for years now. But it's funny, even when couldn't really walk anymore and was pretty frail, he was still an amazing musician. I remember seeing this a couple of years ago and being blown away by how good his piano playing still was:
Sad that the entire group has passed now. Still amazes me that they are not a bigger deal in Canada. I know it is Rolling Stone and it is subjective, but they have two albums in the top 100 of their top 500 records of all time. And their third album Stage Fright, would be considered the greatest album by 99.9% of rock bands, but was almost a disappointment after how amazing the first two records were.
The most talented member of an incredibly talented band. If nothing else, hopefully Garth's death being in the news encourages a few people who have never heard The Band before, to seek out their music and enjoy the best Canadian band of all time.

Does that even include the IMO greatest rock & roll album of all time (being the Basement Tapes)?

Can you hear that singing, sounds like gold?
Maybe I can only hear it in my head
15 years ago they owned that road
Now it's rolling over us instead
Richard Manuel is dead
God forbid you call their bluff
Like the nightmares ain't enough
Remember when we used to think that we were tough?
God forbid you call their bluff
First they make you out to be
The only pirate on the sea
They say Danko would have sounded just like me
"Is that the man I wanna be?"
Drive-By Truckers
“When I started writing this one, I wanted to capture some of Levon Helm’s feelings about the deaths (and lives) of Richard Manuel and Rick Danko. The longer I worked on the song, the more impossible that became. I felt like the best I could do was to explain my own attitude toward being a working and traveling musician." - Jason Isbell
People more in tune with music lore probably already knew this, but I didn't realize that she played a pretty big roll in the success of the Rolling Stones both as a muse to Mick Jagger and also in a more concrete way by helping write some of the songs.
