Today screams of a Brad Treliving "was in on a lot of deals, but weren't willing to pay the price" kind of day......
Thank god he wasn't willing to pay that price for Ristolainen.
Buchnevich would have been nice for that return but a lot there will depend on if he's willing to sign or if he ends up going to arb. I would have done it either way personally, but really a RH shot forward or a top 6 center is probably the priority for this managment group and Buch is a LH LW.

Might be hard for Eichel and Reinhart to move today with bar set so high.
Buffalo media saying asking price for Reinhart is a top 10 pick and a top prospect.

I think Vancouver will pay that price for Reinhart
With what prospect though? 9th overall and Podkolzin is too rich.
Don't know who else they have who would interest the Sabres.

Then good. I want Treliving to be in on a lot of deals and I don't want him to overpay for said deals.
Or do you want him to (a) sit on his hands and (b) pay whatever the ask is when he doesn't.
I completely agree that he should steer clear of bad deals. But to improve your team you are going to have to move players you deem as "good" players. Unfortunately for every Ken Holland there are numerous actual comptetent GMs, and our GM needs to be able to make hockey deals. No team is going to do us any favors, so it is his job to address the needs of the team and make the required changes.
I know that we've had some rough seasons as a fan base, and that things are tense around here.
But, man oh man:
Weird expansion draft that totally did not at all go according to expectations
Multiple trades of well-known players, ranging from inexplicable over-payments to how-did-that-happen steals
Rumours of legitimate star players looking to be traded
Who-knows-how-this-is-going-to-go-down draft first round happening tonight
Front page full of sureloss posts
This is a ton of fun and I just wanted to say thanks to this whole big extended hockey fandom community here at CPuck that I get to enjoy this all with.

Well, sure, but the old "in on a lot and never gets anything" is lazy because he does get deals done, both in trade and UFA. Traded a "good" player last year, traded an excellent player in Hamilton to get other great players. Paid the open market price for Tanev and Markstrom (and, in a bad move, Neal) by outbidding others.
Have some deals fallen apart? Yup, because of player vetoes and paperwork foul ups on the other end. Has he backed off based on price? Sure, and in each case I've read about I agree with the decision (eg. Stone).
To try to respond to your terrible analogy, we don't know yet what kind of a car Dube is, but we do know that he is still only priced as a Hiundai. And Reinhart isn't a Porsche, but he is priced like a Porsche.
I was referring to their upper limit.
Dube will never be anything more than a BWM (in my opnion), and a 25 year-old right-shot natural RW who has only scored less than 20 goals once (17 in his sophmore year), including scoring 25 goals in 54 games this past season, while playing for a perennially losing franchise, is very much a Porsche (especially in terms of current holes in our roster).
Not only does this current build of the Calgary Flames trade Dube for Reinhart in a split-second, they would also bend over and perform any extra action asked of them to make sure the deal happens.
Yes the team is in need of a top 4 LD. I just think Bean is redundant in the sense he's a young tweener who can move the puck and has some offense. Flames have a few of those. I think Hanifin takes over as this teams #1, but they need a steady physical top 4 to play behind him for insurance.
Beans a nice guy to take a chance on if you think he pops. Frees the team to move another young D to try and shore up the forward group. But he is not a Gio replacement.
... it was just a mr.bean reference, but I do appreciate the depth in your argument and agree with your wholeheartedly.
With Vancouver out now with the OEL trade for their first, and Philly out with the Risto trade, does anyone get the feeling we will end up with Reinhart.
Wow, doesn't sound like we were in on Buch at all... and that price was very low. Seems like a huge miss by Brad.
Buch wouldn't have stayed long term in Calgary. He'd be one and done.
I'd rather they invest in something longer term.
