Nuevasync just added push email to their pay services ($25 / year).
I don't use it though. I thought I'd miss push, but really I don't even notice not having it.

I can see it being a real pain for people using their iPhones for business not having push, but for me only using it for personal email, I have no problem that I can't right now.

Uhhhh.. most companies are probably using an exchange server, so they can use push..

Sorry, I don't really know anything about that. I'm not in the business world.

I got push working off Yahoo!.
Apparently, according to several sites I found, push only works if you set up your account via the mail button at the bottom of the iPhone screen. If you go into "Settings" and "Create Account", it doesn't work.
The reason I wanted that set up was that if our system crashes, I want it to e-mail me RIGHT AWAY... I can't wait 15 minutes while 200 people are twiddling their thumbs and I'm eating lunch in the cafeteria. So I'm a happy camper now.

Yeah, for something like critical email notifications push is pretty important, though I usually have those setup for SMS

Yeah, push only seems to work with Yahoo, but create the account from the mail button? Never heard of that...where?
I created my account through Settings - Create Account and push works just fine.

While it currently isn't, the other app mentioned in that story is. Prowl is an app that lets you push any growl notification you get on your mac (yes it's mac only for the time being) to your iphone. This is interesting on a couple levels. For starters the google notifier uses growl to alert you of new gmail messages. This means that you can now get around the push issue and get your gmail as soon as it comes in. Secondly, many Apple apps use growl. This app can be used to tell when your torrents are finished, when somebody is trying to IM you or a host of other things. Interesting possibilities with this one. It costs $3 and requires a little bit of configuration on your mac to work properly, but I still recommend it.
For the easiest install, follow this guide on lifehacker.
edit: I'm trying to set it up for Adium (IM client) ... it's sending me every single message in a conversation which is a little overkill. I think it may be time to face the facts and admit that I'm going to be buying beejive for all my IM chat pushing needs.
edit2: Figured out the adium fix ... still may need beejive.

I find that getting my mail every 15 minutes is plenty. I'm not that desperate for work emails...

So far i'm not finding push gmail that much of a difference from the simple 15 minute intervals. What it does help is you can up the time it checks for new mail which saves on battery. Of course I believe the push apps will drain your battery too though, so perhaps it doesn't matter.

So... my phone fell out of my hand on saturday, got an appointment with the genius bar on wednesday.
Short story short, the top glass is spider webbed, but all the LCD and touch part is still functioning.
Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but I'll update with results after wednesday.

BTW - I am on a mac. From reading around the net, people on Windows had more success with v.7.

I did the exact same thing, tried it on v.7 on a mac and it bricked my iPhone. So after venting eventually googleing something called iBricker I got it back to normal. Then I used redsnow v.7 on my windows machine with no problem.
Do you have any case for your iPhone? if so what can you recommend? I cant find much for the original 2G phone. Also do you have any type of data plan? whats your plan look like?
