this is neither gear grinder, or, a happy post. So here it goes in this thread. our family has been afforded an opportunity I cant pass up to move to cape breton. i cant go in to details and so i cant share with anyone i know or specifics, but, a big thing is happening tomorrow and we will be moving by August. my stomach is full of butterflies and im anxious, nervous, sad about leaving my job, but also incredibly eager to move on and be close to family. i have no idea how ill sleep tonight.

That’s a bit of gear grinder for me. Odd container shapes. Just give me uniform sizes that can stack together or have the same height/width profile. I hate cans that don’t “fit” top with bottom so they tend to be wobbly. Campbell’s knows how to do this properly with their soup cans. Those stupid honey containers shaped like bears? Why? Just put them in mason jars or something with a nice logo.

Hope it's a great decision for you and your family. We'll call you to wake you up for puck drops.

My company is offering a very large amount of voluntary departure packages. I'll be accepting it on Friday, and, the review of who gets it will be done by june 30th. A month of nervous poops, and wondering about the future. lots of mixed emotions.

Fight fire with fire, this song has a 100% success rate of pissing off Karens (I'm personally 1 for 1). I love metal music but that night be one of the worst things I've ever heard.
I've heard far worse car-crash music.. but after 1min10seconds and only thinking I could make out an f-bomb or three... and no idea if any other "words" were actually said... well that was enough. I suspect this may annoy more than only a few Karens if played loudly in public. But that said at least it's not full of raunchy "pump that ho...f that ho...etc.. " type rap and/or RnB mixes.

let me understand... the company is asking for people to volunteer that they would leave if offered a package, but not all who volunteer will get the package. what does that mean to those who don't get the package but want out?
Asking as I used to work with someone who went down that road... wasn't given a package... but left a few months later anyways.

Good yet tough decision and best of luck. I went through the same thing in 2020 with Covid and while it sucked to leave it was the right choice. It might not be the same in your company's situation but for us the initial offer for voluntary departure was the best offer. There were two subsequent mass layoffs later in 2020 and the severance packages were nowhere near as good. Following the third round there were additional "regular" layoffs and those were just standard, bare minimum severance.

When I went through this in 2020 they accepted offers where we had multiple choices, 1. Voluntary leave; 2. Temporary leave of absence; 3. Reduced hours or 4. Maintain regular status.
They had to maintain operational levels so if too many people selected 1 or 2 not everyone could be accomodated but I don't know what deciding factors were used. If not enough people selected 1 or 2 people would be laid off at random and would not be eligible for the "good" voluntary severance package. It was quite the interesting situation.

correct. the # of packages is unclear. our union claims a very, very significant portion of our membership. those who dont take the package will be redeployed to more sales focused roles. i dont wnat to get in to specifics at the best of times of where i work, for privacy, but especially now during this complicated period.
