I read a lot into what both GG and Jerrard said last night. Such defeatist comments.

Maybe a few are, but even if so, it is beside the point.
The point is that there are too many weak performances. Full stop. This team should be better than they are. There are far too many questionable decisions with respect to utilization. And I see a team that can't fully and properly execute their system on a nightly basis, or especially in big games.
Those are coaching issues. The fact that they play some good games does not negate the fact that they play too many bad ones.
If you want to give him credit for the wins and call it a day, that is your prerogative. I am personally not happy with the inconsistency and want to see a team that is not only more consistent, but also looks like they give a ####.

9-11-6 in regulation. Barely 40% odds of making the playoffs.
But yeah, people not willing to give Gulutzan enough credit is apparently a problem.

After reading all the fire GG posts as well as the GG is a good coach posts, it suddenly dawn on me that may be it's not GG needs to be fired. It's Jerrard and Cameron that are the hockey dummies and need to be ripped from the team.

It's a group effortand they all need to go.
The absolute worst thing this franchise could do is fire Gulutzan but keep the rest of the staff and promote Cameron to HC. Same ####, different smug face.

Agree that GG should be on the hot seat, and if they lose even a couple more he should be gone. He has done much less, with a much better team, then his predecessor.

I'd be very intrigued by a Mike Keenan return. That'd be
very interesting.

Guys like Dougie, Brodie and Hamonic are all underperforming whether it's systematic or simply because the coach refuses to let players play on their offside.
If GG can't get our top players to perform that our GM brought in at a VERY high price point Treliving needs to eat crow and fire his head coach.
We spent 2x 1st round picks, 3x 2nd round picks and 1x 3rd round picks for Dougie and Hamonic.
Brodie was a top 10 defensemen at one point and now he looks lost.
Dougie is soft and probably gets away with more than he should because the captain is rock solid night in night out.
Hamonic doesn't even look like a top 4 guy most nights. I'm willing to give him a bit more time because defensemen in a new system can take a while, but given how Brodie and Dougie look i'm not convinced Hamonic just needs more time. I'd be more comfortable with Stone in his spot and that's a problem
These aren't bad players. They're good players who have proven to be good players time and time again and if they're all consistently underperforming GG needs to go.

-Gio referenced in his interview last night that the team plays like they are scared to make a mistake, that mistakes happen and the team has to cover for each other. I am admittedly reading into things, but it sounded like a veiled criticism of GG. I can imagine the pre game speech being about safe, defence, avoid risks, don’t make mistakes. Very contrary to the ‘safe is death’ mentality, and very much what I would expect from GG based on his comments, temperament, and history.
-GG said that the team plays nervous in big games, and they have to address it. So for those that don’t believe a coach has a role in preparation, then there is nothing he can do with that. Of course there is, seeing as how even a calm tactical delivery has its own effect on the players mindset and emotional level.
Calm can be a good thing, but if players tend to play nervous, the coach has to find ways to alter the mood of the group. He even admitted that he can tell ahead of time when they are in that state.
If he can see that, he has to find ways to change the collective emotional state. He may not have the personality for it unfortunately, which causes an issue with getting the potential out of this team.

Jesus I didn’t say he should get credit for the wins and call it a day
This discussion would be helped immensely if people didn’t exaggerate points being made
I’ve been consistent on this board for years with an opinion that coaches get too much blame and too much credit. I think most of both should go to the players
But if people are going to blame gg for players taking a step back it is logical he gets some credit for players who are excelling

Never said Johnny is having a disappointing season. He looks like Johnny Hockey again. It was last year under Gully I was referring to. How do you give GG credit for Johnny this year but say nothing of last year when he took over and Gaudreau went from a superstar to looking average for most of the season? Sure he showed flashes of classic Johnny last season but he was electrifying every shift under Hartley. This year Johnny Hockey is back and i don't believe for a second GG had anything to do with it. Jagr told him he is capable of being dominate and instilled confidence in him again.
How do you give credit to GG for Johnny's turn around? Why was Johnny so pedestrian last year under him and what changed this year? Getting rid of the slashing probably plays a big part. Also getting a leader like Jagr has had its effect on a few of the kids as well. What part did the glue play?

Too many horror stories from players about how Keenan would abruptly cancel practices last minute or not talk to players for extended periods of time.

In my opinion the only reason anyone (including Treliving) should be supportive of sticking with Gulutzan much longer is if they believe he is actually moving this team forward in a meaningful way. Given that we are seeing the same old inconsistencies that concerned people last year I'd say that's a tough argument to make. If expectations are for this to be an average team with a shot at the playoffs Gulutzan is doing a fine job. If you want this team to take steps towards ultimately being a contender then its pretty questionable if they are headed that direction.
Given that Treliving spent assets and had most people believing he iced a good team before the season began, the shortcomings have to fall on the coaching staff.

As much as I can't stand GG, I won't give him all the blame for Gaudreau's less than stellar play last year.
Gaudrea missed training camp, not the biggest deal but for an elite player signing his first big contract, I think missing training camp did figure in the equation.
He had a broken finger and missed about a month. I think that contributed a lot as it happened early n the season, when his training was just getting up to snuff. Missing a month means a lot to conditioning for an NHL player. Plus, he had to wear that stupid big glove to protect the injured hand.
He was slashed relentlessly last year. That for me was was the biggest reason why his play was less than stellar.

I think GG is a good coach. But maybe only as an assistant coach. He has the perfect mentality for it - a guy who can be a bridge between the players and the head coach. Torts raved about him when they played the Blue Jackets.

You haven't watched enough hockey and you certainly have probably not watched enough Keenan hockey.
I was on board with the initial hiring of Keenan but the Flames got "kitty cat" Keenan and not Iron Mike.
While both Mike's were extreme, I think a bit more of Iron Mike was required.

I don’t know the answer to this and neither do you. You are speculating- and this speculation is heavily tainted by your dislike of GG. My point in all of this is: if you’re going to #### on GG for all of the negatives you must praise him for all the positives, otherwise you’re being unfairly biased.
I’m sick of hearing ‘GG sucks cuz Brodie is bad now’ while at the same time seeing ‘Johnny G. Is having a great year. Must be Jagr and no slashing’ ... extreme opinions are virtually always false, and the truth lies in the middle. Is GG the right coach for this team? It’s starting to look like he might not be. Should he be blamed for all of this teams shortcomings while no credit is given for the positives? Well, that doesn’t seem fair or accurate.
