Ben McAdoo's near two-year run as head coach of the New York Giants is coming to an end, and he could be fired in the 24 hours after Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders, league sources told ESPN.

Giants general manager Jerry Reese's standing also is highly tenuous, according to sources, though any timing on his potential departure is more uncertain than McAdoo's.

Firing McAdoo would come less than one week after the Giants benched starting quarterback Eli Manning, a move that now is being considered the final straw in what has become a very un-Giants-like season for a franchise that never has fired a head coach in season, according to sources.

baffling stuff. Why let McAdoo bench Eli when firing him is a certainty anyway?

I think it's obvious this wasn't McAdoo's call to bench him. The GM told him to bench Eli. Now he can fire the coach, not have the franchise take the heat for benching him and start the process of moving on from Eli.

Then he will be fired as well IMO. As he should be, though its not likely to occur until seasons end.

The Mara's abhor negative publicity and this week has been more than they like to experience in a year.

Jerry 'Bob I want you to start Geno Smith'
Bob 'OK. but if I do that, I'm going to get fired'
Jerry 'Bob...we're both getting fired'

Chiefs have run 6 plays and have 2 TD's. Early returns look good for Matt Nagy.

Chiefs went back to being trash. Time to jump on the Patriot band wagon.

The only thing worse than this game is having Mark Schlereth doing colour.

What the hell was Gronk doing there?? That was savage, I'd expect a suspension coming

What a perfect ending for Robbie Gould as he single-handedly put up every single point to beat the Bears in their own house after they cut him, including the dagger with only seconds left.

Bears are awful

Imagine going to a game and catching a ref's flag.

That’s some awful football by KC. Completely obvious defensive holding at crucial times, you just can’t do that.

Late to the Eli game and never liked him but to have Geno Smith start, not some up and coming rookie they want to give reps to is low. And the token offer of taking a snap for the streak? If Eli plays again this year he should audible every play at the line to his own.

Would be very interested to hear John Hufnagel’s take on this, as he was the Giants QB coach a couple years with Eli until he got out maneuvered politically and then came back to the Stamps.

Edit:And now reports coming out McAdoo fired as early as tomorrow. The move to start Smith almost seems like the middle finger to the Giants organization from him and or Reece, who kept McAdoo in the first place over Coughlin because they didn’t want to lose his him and his connection to Eli.

And, interesting to see what the NFL wheel of justice lands on for Gronk. A premeditated attack, and forearm to the head shot, to a player laying on the ground?
