Kick the puck in the net and then celebrate like soccer players.

Exactly. He kind of directed his foot, but didn't kick.
Okay, so how is that different than directing / pushing it in with your chest?

It isn't. As long as you don't chest bump it into the net it counts. What a weird comparison. Any body part is permitted to knock the puck onto the net. You just can't swing your arm and punch it into the net, for example.

Crazy.
I don't like their chances against Canada, but anything can happen.
Halak vs Price in the final.

I just think the distinction between kicking and directing the puck is too blurry. Then we're talking about intention.
I'd just say let every kicked in goal count so long as your skate is on the ice.

I wonder what the betting odds pre-tournament were for Europe winning it all...

That's sort of the rule now. Usually if there is no backswing or follow thru it counts.

It's really not -- the standard to make it illegal is a distinct kicking motion (usually described as a pendulum motion) where the kicking motion propelled the puck into the net.
See videos and explanations on this page.

It's pretty funny looking back at the first 5 minutes of the team NA game against Europe and every one calling them awful, worst team in the tournament...etc. And now they're in the finals.

With the change to the standard that was implemented a couple of years ago, it's basically as long as your skate stays in contact with the ice (or close to) during the "kick" it will usually be allowed. If you bend your knee and lift your skate off the ice before the kick, it will usually be disallowed.

Which was my point with the silly chest pumping call. Let them all count, except for throwing it in or clearly kicking with the skate blade coming off the ice

Just curious, does anyone except the players involved care about the outcome of the finals now?
Canada has already solidified its position as the best hockey nation in the world.
