i found it odd last year that the Eagles started spending big money and going for the "dream team"... if they did that in the Mcnabb era, they might have won a couple bowls. imagine if they actually gave him a standout reciever early in his career? the year they did have a quality reciever (Owens), they went to the big game....

There was a 5 year window where the Chargers had a lot of talent, but AJ Smith managed to pee a lot of it away.
First mistake was after they went 14-2 they let Wade Phillips and Cam Cameron leave for HC jobs elsewhere....than he decides to fire Schottenheimer. There was still a lot of talent left for Norv Turner, and he got them to the AFC Championship game the next year. But thats when the talent erosion starts in San Diego, and today the team doesn't have the same talent level.
We can all rip Schottenheimer to shreds for how conservative he is as a coach...but I think it's pretty evident that when he was present both the Chiefs and Chargers did a pretty good job of accumulating talent for their teams. After he left...the GM (Smith for the Chargers and Peterson for the Chiefs) who was still there didn't do as well.
Ultimately the Eagles at least won playoff games every year under Reid/McNabb. But were never really good enough to win a Superbowl. The Chargers just kept shooting themselves in the foot, and squandered some talented teams. Also didn't help that the Chargers had to beat the likes of Brady and Manning to make the Superbowl....the Eagles didn't really have to take out great QB's during their 5 year stretch.

The one that drives me nuts is Brandon Marshall. Could've been had in the 4th round of the 2006 draft, but we took Jason Avant instead.

Unfortunately for them Bowlen lost his mind and axed Shanahan, than replaced him with McDaniels, who proceeded to squander a lot of that talent, and spend two years of not as good personell moves.

The game that epitomizes the Chargers franchise was the playoff game with NE in which they had NE on 4th down, Brady throws the ball and the safety (Mcree) instead of letting it hit the ground, intercepts it, proceeds to be a hero and "take it to the house", then fumbles the ball and the Pats recover and then win the game.... he lets that drop or if he does intercept it, goes to the ground, San Diego wins..... that team was never the same after that loss. they were 14-2 that year and would have played Indy, whose number they had... Result was Marty gone and the hiring of Norv..

The problem with the Eagles was that their offenses were never built to play January football. They didn't have WRs who could stretch defenses, and Reid would usually abandon the running game. Out of the 5 NFC Championship games they played in the 2000s, 3 were at home, and 2 were on the road. The ones they played the best in were the two road games that were both indoors (losing both times to Kurt Warner).

That was just one of the awful mistakes made that game, I remember a Chargers receiver kicking a penalty flag that got thrown on the Pats. I just remember all these absolute bonehead plays and that fumble was the absolute worst, no reason to keep running with the ball. Lucky for NFL fans, it lead to one of the best AFC Championships ever between the Pats and Colts.

It never will.
Dallas should have gotten a super bowl coach since Romo fumbled that snap 6? years ago.

I knew it was to good too be true but Ed Reed is also hurt, though he is playing through it with a labrum tear in shoulder. His tackling has been awful thus far and is only going to get worse with that injury. I guess it could go something like this with all of the injuries Baltimore now has on D, when it rains it pours...
On the bright side the team comedian, Terrell Suggs was back at practice today.

He's a FB or a blocking TE at the end of the day. I am a big Tebow fan but this will play to his strength, and the Jets are facing injuries at RB with Powell and McKnight probably out.
Look at how effective he is on the punt team. If they can transition that to a FB position where he throws once in a while he would be very effective IMO.

Interesting thing I read about the four loses in the Jim Harbaugh era that followed the next week, they won 13-8, 26-0, 20-3 and 34-0. Four games, zero touchdowns allowed.
Will they follow suit tonight and make it 5-0 after the NYG beat them last week and keep teams outta of their endzone after a loss? It could be a very long night for Russell Wilson with a very pissed off San Fran D.

Walt Anderson again was god awful. I think they did the Broncos game this week as well?
Alex Smith is still a below average quarterback. Blows my mind that some people at the start of the season actually thought having Alex Smith over Peyton Manning was a good idea. Smith was garbage again tonight and had the Seahawks just crowded the line to stop the run, it could've won them the game.
Thursday games need to go in my opinion. None have been entertaining, all have been sloppy and I have less and less interest in watching them

Thursday night games shouldn't start until week 5 and should feature two teams coming off a bye week. That way you don't get as condensed of a week as coaches can prepare and players aren't as banged up.

Basically he was just a "check down" QB last night, with the running game they had going, a good QB would have had a field day... the lack of a real passing game might hurt that team down the road, the defense cant hold teams to 6 points every game

A guy who had so much potential but made some idiotic decisions now has been cut in Sergio Kindle to make room for Terrell Suggs to return to the 53 man roster. NFL.com says he is starting and that blowhard named Adam Schefter said so this week too. But I have my doubts since the picture I saw of him this week looked like he was really out shape. I think John Harbaugh is just playing mind games with Gary Kubiak. Either way it might be something to keep an eye. Personally I think Terrell Suggs will be either playing after their bye next week against Cleveland or the following week against Oakland.
