To "ever" play. Makar is not the best to ever play. There is zero logical argument for that

No one said that - it was if Parekh is better then Makar
Like Makar +
They D who has been a top 3 Norris candidate in 5 of his first 6 seasons
What other D has ever done that ….. and Parekh would be better !!

Well Parekh could end up better, his junior numbers and stats suggests it is possible. They are better than Makar's was. Just like Makar should end up in the top 10 D men of all time if he continues to play at this level. He isn't there yet though.

Makar played college so not sure how Parekhs numbers are better playing in the OHL.
Never seen anyone try to discredit Makar like this. Even haters say he’s unbelievable.
He’s the best defenceman I have ever watched and is a top 3 player in the league.

The fact that there's two players today directly tied to CGY putting up Orr like efforts in their respective draft classes is enough of mind bender for me to be okay with it. Orr is the ultimate conversation piece using "whataboutism". What if he never got injured?? What kind of numbers would he have put up???
Doesn't matter. I don't think he's the greatest D man ever in the sport, his injuries put an end to that. Orr could have been..maybe.
Truth is at the end of the day, both Makar and Parekh have done what was considered impossible and put up anywhere near Orr's respective production respectively.
Appreciate both and dont poop on either to try and win an argument.

Man you make me feel old, as much as I love Makar I could probably name 5 or 6 just about everyone would consider better, also this talk about him coming home to Calgary in 2 years is a silly pipe dream.

Makar will have the same number of Norris trophies after this season, same number of Conn Smythe trophies, same number of Cups, same number of Calder trophies and more 90+ point seasons than Leetch. Leetch put up his big point seasons when NHL scoring was 15% higher than the lower scoring era that Makar plays in.
Leetch is better somehow LOL.

I'm probably younger than most of the forum but I wouldn't necessarily put Makar on the same level as Orr or Lidstrom. He could be up there when it's all said and done. He's the most impressive D-man I've seen in my lifetime watching hockey

I gotta say, these arguments lead nowhere.
There’s no way to know, definitively, which player is better. They played in different eras against different competition etc. Gretzky himself says the players today are better than they were when he played. How does that factor into the equation?
Really though, I find the underlying message of ‘I know more than you’ in these debates to be a little off putting and doesn’t really support the argument for either side. There’s no way you can guarantee 32 GM’s would take Chara over Makar. If you’re going to make that kind of claim, then prove it. Go out and get 32 emails from each GM. Somehow I don’t think you can. Your ‘guarantee’ doesn’t hold much water, respectfully.
Look, the 10 guys you name are all tremendous players, as is Makar. Makar has, probably, a decade left in his career, so let’s see how he stacks up when it’s all said and done. I think he’ll be on that list you’ve provided. Where he slides in? Well, I’d say that’s a matter of opinion but I believe we’ve heard the ‘best since Orr’ statements from a few people who get paid to cover the sport. Were they saying the same things about Leetch, Neidermeyer, or Chara? Not that I recall. I do think, though, that Lidstrom has. IMO, he and Orr are the gold standard at the moment. Can Makar get there, I think he has a shot at it.
Can Parekh? I’d be cautious about that. It was less than a year ago two other defence men and six forwards were picked ahead of him. Would the same happen today, probably not but that explains the nature of drafting 18 year olds. Hell, two guys named ‘who’ were picked before Michael Jordan in the NBA.
All this to say, these debates should be light hearted. There’s no way to prove anything and it’s a matter of opinion.

Makar is an awesome talent, but I believe the advanced stats for the past bit show that he and MacKinnon both struggle relatively when playing away from each other.

I'd rank Makar below Lids. Lidstrom would control a game in ways I'd never seen before. He was like a dominant midfielder in soccer, controlling the whole playing surface.
Makar is probably in line with S Neids for me, amongst those I've actually seen in my watching era..
Lots of career left though for him to move way up that list; he's in the top 5ish mix already.

If his career pace continues then I think Makar is somewhere in that 4-10 range pretty clearly though.
He already has a Norris (likely a 2nd this year), a Cup, a Conn Smythe, and is third in P/GP for dmen in a career.

Back to trade rumours, Andersson talks are heating up and at this point all signs point to trading him at the draft. The two sides mutually want to part ways.
Teams with significant interest:
Toronto - LOL
Carolina
STL
LA
SJ
WSH
Utah
EDM
Craig wants a 1st (doesn’t have to be this year) and young roster player or higher level propspect(s) and the belief is Andersson has very good value. However any team he goes to expects a long term extension to be part of it as well, likely around 8.25 per.
These 3 weeks can’t go fast enough!

Great news, hopefully we get a really good return on this one. I don't see Rasmus going to EDM or TOR.

Thanks, great news!
Does the fact that an extension can't be signed until July 1 complicate a draft day deal? Or are teams satisfied with a verbal agreement?
