Also, I guarantee you 32 out of 32 GM's take prime Chara over Makar. You can find elite puck moving D men, you can't find Chara.

It’s hard to accomplish close to retired players after 400 games
Almost like that’s how a career and games played works
But I think it’s easy to argue Makars first 5 seasons are as good as any D outside Orr in NHL history
And the statement was Parekh BETTER
To be better he would need to be Bobby Orr through his first 5 seasons . Who is the best D in history

I don't know if it's the Calgary factor or posters are just young but there is some serious overrating of Makar on here.

Yeah he is just out there doing cardio. Doesn’t do much else.

Highly disagree. Makar is something special. Not very many d man are scoring the way he’s scoring and especially during this day and age. Also not too shabby in his own end either.

He had 92 points on one of the most stacked offensive teams in the league. Eric Karlsson had 101 points on the worst team in the league 2 years ago and he isn't even in my list. So how much better is Karlsson if we are going by scoring standard?

You mean Brian Leetch who played 18 seasons.
- two time Norris trophy winner
- first US born player to win Conne Smythe in 1994
- one of only 6 NHL D men to score over 100 points in a season
- win the Calder in 89 and has the rookie record for most goals by a rookie NHL D man.
- Hockey Hall Of Fame 2009
- 2017 named by NHL as one of top 100 players in NHL history
- IIHF hall of fame 2023
- number retired in 2008.
Ok, your turn. List all of Makar's accomplishments that make him better than Leetch. I will wait.

He has been top 3 in Norris trophy voting in 5 of his first 6 seasons (winning 1 so far with this year TBD), won a cup , won RotY, has more points then Leetch over his first 400 games
In Leetches career - playing in a higher scoring era - he got more points then Makars this season ONCE
If you combine their careers Makar has 3/5 top scoring
Makar has scored more goals in a season twice then Leetch did in his career
How can you Include accomplishments like Hall of Fame , or number retired when one guy is active haha
First US Born ?? How does that affect overall “best”?? Cause he’s from a different country ?
You are reallly reaching

How can you project one guy still playing as being better over his career then a hall of famer who has accomplished more. You are really reaching. Could Makar end up better then Leetch? Sure. Is he higher than Leetch in a top 10 all time right now? No way. Majar is good, he might even end up the 4th best D man ever when all is said and done. He is never going to be Orr, Lidstrom, Bourque good. I highly doubt anybody ever will.

No one is talking career projections . The statement was Parekh could be better then Makar / wouldn’t be surprised
To be better then Makar at this point of their career someone would need multiple Norris trophies and have been nominated every season for their career , multiple cups , and be the highest scoring D at this point of their career in history

Unless you are 60 years old you never saw Orr play with any semblance of an actual personal memory either. Scott Niedermayer better than Makar is just offensive to rational hockey thought. Brian Leetch was nowhere near the player that Makar is.

Actually go back and read what I originally responded to.

Wtf. If zayne is better then Makar then he will be the best D to ever play in the NHL.

The poster is clearly projecting that Makar is the best defenseman in NHL history.

Well when Makar accomplishes what those guys did you let me know. Until then he isn't there. I love how I give a list and a solid argument of why Leetch with his accomplishments is ahead of Makar right now in history rankings and your rebuttal is to stomp your feet and say wrong lol.
