Have you just not been there in years?

Since they fixed up the 17th ave crossing it’s extremely easy and not frightening or yucky. If I’m downtown proper I’ll take the train down the 2-3 stops (I usually park more central downtown and do this). After the game or whatever event I’ll then walk down 17th and hit a bar or a restaurant. And judging by the crowds in both situations, there are hundreds if not thousands of people who do exactly this or one of the two, including women and families with children (though not the bar part!) who don’t seem grossed out by it.

Heavily recommend going car free next time. It’s not as scary and difficult as you think it is, I bet you’ll be quite surprised and it should only get better with the improvements.

I don't know how anybody can look at that and claim it's pedestrian friendly. That photo is 80% road, rail, and parking.

Experiencing it at ground level as a pedestrian helps. It’s not ideal (we’re talking about Macleod Trail, after all), but is a vast improvement on what was there before. Much better. And those parking lots will soon be replaced by buildings.

You see that big grey swatch to the right of the 17th Avenue extension? That's ALL for pedestrians, and it leads right to that big-ass crosswalk across Macleod Trail. The rail you're complaining about? That's the LRT, without which very few pedestrians would be able to get access to the Stampede grounds.

Funny sort of complaint.

I don't understand why you can't turn right from that exit onto mcleod trail northbound seems like a huge miss

Being able to turn right would completely screw up the flow of traffic from that lane.

Not familiar with when or how they decided to extend 17th through the Stampede grounds but could they not have or are they planning to elevate or bury the LRT tracks at that point? Not feasible or too expensive?
