Just saw this on a breakdown of the oilers win streak:
1st to 5th place teams: 0
5th to 10th place teams: 1
10th to 15th place teams: 3
15th to 20th place teams: 2
20th to 32nd place teams: 10
Obviously it’s a rare and difficult thing to ever win 16 in a row but if there was ever a schedule setup for one… thats it.

Are the Oilers the only team in the NHL who have turned their intermission breaks into a strange mix of the TV show "Lottery changed my life" and a 50/50 telethon?

Congrats to the Oilers for barely squeaking by the worst home team in the league, served up on a silver platter by the officials late in the 3rd period.
Cup parade back on!

Also the first goal by Kane shouldn't have counted. Perry smacked away Gibson's stick, and they missed the penalty. Then Gibson went out and they faced the backup for the third period.
This game was handed to them.

Anyone have the misfortune to watch the Cabbie / Oilers feature on Hockey Saturday?
That has to be a new low of cringeworthy Oiler content.

What absolutely floors me...you see all of these hockey journalists being let go or not renewed or 'retired' and so...how in the world is Cabbie still employed?
I mean...the guy provides absolutely no value.
He seems to know nothing about hockey or even sports in general.
Its baffling.

He hugged McHobo and Nurse, wished them “glory”.
And success in June.
What a tool.

"Cringe" is what Cabbie does so a feature involving the Oilers doubles the cringe.

Not really showing they're gonna blow the doors off of any playoff caliber team. Just faced their two most probable round 1 opponents and lost to both..
What does a streak against 80% bottom half teams supposed to say about imminent playoff success, exactly? I'm not grasping the hype.

I mean, the organization and general sphere was happy to grab up Corey Perry for cheap.

Yup, that streak was all smoke & mirrors. Sure it's never easy winning 16 straight, but the schedule makers made the path about as easy as you could have possibly made it during that stretch. They also had a lot of good fortune with travel, multiple breaks between games, back-up goalies, and going up against teams who were either in the midst of losing streaks themselves or just not playing their best hockey.
And as we all expected, as soon as they started facing playoff-calibre teams, they couldn't keep it rolling. The Oilers' lack of depth really showed in those two games against Vegas and LA. The Ducks game should have been a loss as well if not for the refs gift-wrapping it for them late in the 3rd period and looking the other way when the Oilers committed obvious infractions.
In short, they are who we thought they were.
