Being in Toronto, and the leafs still needing a 1b goalie, at minimal cap cost....
How would flames fan offering vladar to the leafs? I'm sure the flames can find a avg backup on the market given that markstrom plays 60+ games?

Surely 1 of Thomas (unlikely with the recent signing) or Kyrou is the starting ask.
Likely a 1st round pick.

Thomas would have more trade value than Tkachuk these days. He's going no where, and never was. His years of control would have made a difference, than a player going to UFA in a year.
Kyrou should be available.

I'm also a Leafs fan (sorry I live in Toronto), so I'd love this kind of deal for the Leafs, but if I'm the Flames I don't do it without an overpayment.
Wolf is potentially the Flames future in goal but he needs playing time which means another season in the AHL. And the Flames aren't going to get a better backup than Vladar. Unless the Flames are going full tank mode (which I highly doubt), dealing Vladar now doesn't make sense.

I doubt that the Flames have any intention of trading Vladar, absent a huge overpay.

I think the inconsistency was last year. He was fine off the hop, but petered out and eventually got replaced by Nichushkin.

So the Senators add Talbot, Giroux and Debrincat to an already pretty good looking young forward core? Wow… dynamite off-season if they land Giroux. May wanna look at D though.

If the Sens are looking to shed some cap, and Connor Brown is available at the right price go get him.
Don't overpay for Ben Chiarot today. Tre's long memory could be a blessing and a curse with this money.

Does anyone have other examples of a pro sports owner dying and his role going to a couple young kids? The ownership group of the Senators is now two children. Must be weird to have your boss be teenage girls

So, when do we figure we find out the direction the Flames are going?
1. Staying silent in FA? Or signing players?
2. Tkachuk being traded?
3. Taking on bad contracts?
I just hope the Flames are honest with the fans on what they are looking to do.

I mean, the biggest UFA's will get done today most likely.
Unfortunately most of the UFA's already know where they are going before it opens, so the Flames were behind the 8 ball as of last night.
With that said, I hope they stay quiet which would signify a proper strategy.

My guess they will sign a couple UFAs, more minor type of stuff
Tkachuk contract is likely going to take all summer to figure out
Flames addressing the loss of Gaudreau, I still think will be done via trade and it could take a while.

Personally, I don't like it. Vladar has shown flashes of impressive play and I would rather keep him

I'm more in favor of trading markstrom and running a wolf/vladdy combo. Markstrom could probably garner a significant return still.

I'd be ok with a mid-tier FA move, but their priority should be getting Tkachuk and Mangiapane inked to long-term deals. They can bump Bread up to the top line, then stick Toffoli or Pelletier on the 2nd line with Backlund and Coleman.
It's definitely a big step back, but there's not much they can do about it now.

best chance for the Flames to deal Tkachuk to the Blues would be a 1st, Neighbors, Tarasenko.
Moving out the Tarasenko contract for them would be big.
A Kyrou deal is something they would look at in the future if they cant afford him.

Oof that’s a huge step back. Backlund and Coleman with anyone is a decent 3rd line but painful 2nd

The Flames cannot trade their first this year.
