SIAP...sorry to bump this, but thought this was a good graphic showing different construction costs...

article is from 2013, so adjust for inflation, but its an interesting comparison...

^ Nightingale Rose - such a cool chart.

Oh, and MSG must be some nice place for that amount of money.

i'm sure it is... but its also in NYC, so construction costs are probably more just for that, and MSG houses a ton of stuff, not just hockey... so that budget was most likely for the entire facility, which is substantial...

it also sits above a subway station, which undoubtedly complicates things...

Yeah and considering that doing a reno is always going to be more expensive than a brand new build, and that its in the middle of New York there was always going to have to be a premium paid.

But it is super cool.

Could not find a newer section drawing, but it's definitely a building only possibly in cities as dense as NYC...

The old school axo evokes a Fountainhead kind of utopia though

Haven't gone myself, so I would be interested in hearing from people who have

IIRc the reno had to be done a certain way as well because the city has wanted to 'take back' MSG and the permitting process was very difficult, which drove up construction costs even more.

Its also in the middle of New York, probably one of the top 3 most densely populated urban areas in the world. It wasnt going to be easy and certainly not cheap.

I am somewhat disappointed that they got rid of the bowling alleys though.

Pretty sure it's not even close to top 3. But most definitely not a boonie village either.

That's sort of understating it.

Amazing picture by the way.

Add Little Caesars arena to the conversation.
It's going to cost around $650m, with approximately $365m of that from Public funds.

Jonah Keri podcast: interview with Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller

http://nerdist.com/the-jonah-keri-po...3-gail-miller/

The ownership of the Utah Jazz is in a legacy trust which means the family will never profit from it and it'll never leave the city.

http://www.nba.com/article/2017/01/2...y-miller-group

Great interview. No public funding and no threats to leave. Flames and the city could learn something.

That's an expensive arena when you consider Rogers Place was $600 million CDN.

So, just on concerts, Ed Sheeran, who has to be the biggest act this year, is skipping Calgary. I do know people from out of town who are going to go to Edmonton - they would have rather gone to Calgary, but nope.
