I'm too late to the party or I will kill to be a travel scout for $120K a year plus all the free travel and meals included with the job, plus the privilege to speak to Her Highness directly.

News out yesterday that Jim Prentice has been giving away free PC Party Memberships to support his campaign to be leader of the party, and that membership in general is waaay down.
Is this the beginning of the end for the AB PC's, or just another indicator that Canadians hate politics during summer holidays?

A Calgary NW PC candidate gave out free membership in 2012 too. But I don't understand why Prentice needs to do this when he is the shoo-in winner.

Ya, but you're just thinking along partisan lines. I would love to watch the entire awkward exchange. Smith having to present the portrait and being nice. Redford having to sit there and pretend she's thrilled to be there. Its funny to me on so many levels.

I think it is confirmation of the low profile race that the party is aiming for.
The last contest had open debates in every city and allowed questions from the floor. This year, from what I have seen, the debates are all closed door, member only, pay to watch events.

I think most people will skip the unveiling. But I wouldn't put it pass Redford attending it as she's arrogant enough to take it as a compliment rather than public shamming.

Well how is it not a compliment? I don't think that I'm arrogant, but if someone was going to paint a portrait of me to hang in the capital building I would be there. I get that you hate her, but it really is a compliment...

In the context of everything that transpired, no it isn't a compliment. Most people would put their tail between their legs and hope not to be seen or heard from again ever. But then Redford isn't most people.
I've seen people getting fired at work. After they were gone, we almost always avoid mentioning their names if at all possible. And those fired employee will never ever want to be seen in the same office building again. The AG report shreded Redford's characters to pieces and said not one good word about her in 40 some pages. Redford was worse than being fired and she has to go back to legislative building for the unveiling. How's that a compliment for most people?

Is it really that much of a compliment if every premier ends up on the wall?
My company has photo portraits of all past CEOs on a wall. One (who was fired) was so reviled at the end that his portrait was stolen three times. It would be funny if that happened with Redford's - or if devil horns were drawn on or something. Something appropriately childish as befits politics in general.

I realise you won't admit this, but surely there is something in her brief tenure that you could point to as being good. I'm not a big fan of a lot of politicians, but its pretty rare that absolutely everything they've done is terrible.

The revenge fantasies in this thread are remarkably tame and petty than we usually see on CP.
Kudos.

I'll admit that quitting before she was forced out was the one good thing she had done. And if PC loses the next election because of her, that would be her second accomplishment.
Asking Auditor General to look into her travel expenses would be the third.

Your Grace, it is time to serve lentils to the serfs. We'll do our best to inform the untouchables that they must not speak.

Taking the fight to Christy Clark and US officials over pipeline issues is a good thing she attempted. But I wonder, did she actually accomplish much that was good? Her short tenure certainly did not allow for a great opportunity to achieve.
