I think its fine. I mean.. playing on that Flames squad must shatter anyone's confidence. Look at all those goalless droughts.
Granlund isn't going to bring us to the playoffs. In fact, we've never entered the new year so far away from playoffs.
We should admit that we've lost this season due to rebuild and upheaval, and leave the kids where they are progressing.
This is legitimately the best Heat squad to ever lace 'em up.

I'm sure Granlund is disappointed he didn't get to play but he got an NHL paycheck for a week at least.

Blah I'm hoping for the opposite. Dump the useless vets and call up a bunch of kids like last year. That was fun for everyone.

That is an incredibly destructive mind set to have and I hope anyone in the Flames organization that might have or has that mindset is immediately fired and replaced.
1) You are allowing the players to believe that losing is acceptable in some way and become complacent in their effort and play because it doesn't matter (which sounds eerily familiar). That is NOT a locker room atmosphere that is going to attract or retain top players, which we still need to guide our youngsters into the NHL.
2) You destroy the work ethic of the top prospects in Abbotsford because no matter how hard they work, they know they won't get a call-up or a cup of coffee as a reward for what they have done.

He was a reach at the time but no one really questioned too much because it was a David Conte selection. IIRC he was a Lake Bonavista native (that's in Calgary, for the out-of-towners) who centred Dany Heatley and Krys Kolanos on the AAA Buffaloes.

It's a fan's mindset, obviously it's an impossible viewpoint to have within an organization. You don't run a business by running around crying "It's all over!" and weeping all the time.
But it's true. We are out of the playoffs with 40 games left to go in the season. That's the reality and I don't know what you do about it. I think you teach winning in the AHL, and you send winners to the NHL.

This part is true. You need to be continually rewarding your young guys, in a rotation almost with that 23rd spot.
I'm just afraid of what that NHL group might do to a kids confidence.

For those of us old enough to remember - you could make the argument that he was the best player on that line.
Man did they ever tear it up.....

I finally got around to starting up the blog after the holidays, here's my take on Chris Breen's return to Abby:
http://heathockey.wordpress.com/2014...fraser-valley/
Worth it just to watch the fight between MacDermid and Breen and hear how shameless the announcers are.

He was a year younger than them too.
That Buff's team was the best AAA midget team I've ever seen.

Will anybody be at the game tonight? Looking to head out that way and hope to check it out. Also, does anyone know if we can just walk up and buy tickets?

In 4 seasons in the WHL he totalled 39 games played... Averaging just under 10 games a season. I think it's safe to assume that he missed out a lot of playing time due to injury, which may have hampered his development. Anyone have any insight into why he's missed so many games over the years?

My Freshman Friday feature is week is Joni Ortio. Sweet gif and sweeter stats, thanks for the supportive clicks.
So stoked for the game tonight. It's been a really quiet stretch over the last two weeks. I'm actually expecting a bit of a rough start while they shake the cobwebs off, it's been so long.

If anybody is at the game I am in section 114, row 10 or so. Come grab a beer or two. Big guy with a faded black Flames hat and red huddy.

IIRC he has had serious concussion issues. Good to see he can play again.

He had one concussion that I can remember. I think Foster's issue was more with a serious abdominal wall tear that he kept reinjuring. Had 2 surgeries within 5 months on it, came back and then got another injury in the abdominal area: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sport...-23-foster.htm
Hopefully that's all been dealt with and he can be a productive player.
Edit: Here's a better overview of his injuries: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL...75270-sun.html Hip Injury and Surgery, Abdominal Injuries and surgery, concussion. Perhaps we should bubble wrap the kid.
