The Christmas special had about 20s of redeeming television.
And that was right at the end when Katty Perry was looking all fine and Moe kissed her stomach and she said something to the effect of "that's not my stomach" and then followed it up with "but I didn't say stop".
That was classic. More like 10s though.
I thought the Christmas episode was pretty decent. This season has been substantially better than some of the other recent seasons.
I watched all 4 episodes last night. Simpsons, Cleveland x2 and American Dad.
Simpsons was a distant fourth. And up until recently I didn't even really like the Cleveland show.
I thought American Dad was certinaly better, but I don't watch the Cleveland Show.
However, statistically the American Dad episode has an 87 on TV.com, and the two Cleveland episodes have a 74 and a 77.
I'm not saying it really means a whole lot, but I get the feeling some people will dislike the "new" Simpsons regardless simply because it is no longer the "old" Simpsons. To be fair, I could just as likely still enjoy it because its the same show to me.

That seems to be a popular retort whenever this is discussed. I'm sure a small percentage fit that view. The rest of us just see a show that has pretty much abandoned everything that made it funny for 10 years.
To me, the last 10 seasons are pretty close to Star Wars Prequels bad, while the first 10 are original trilogy good.

Fair enough, then why keep watching it?
Seems like a more obvious solution than watching it and hating it.

Hate is a strong word.
Best analogy I can come up with is the Simpsons is like your child. No matter how much they screw up you still hope that they haven't shown you all they've got. You even know they aren't limited to being loser who sits at home all day and gets high because you've seen them be successful for 10 full years. But at some point they became a total loser. You still care about that kid. You still invite them for Christmas and Thanksgiving and listen to their stupid stories, but it pains you because you know how much potential they have.
I love the Simpsons. I actually only watch it sporadically nowadays because I don't like most (all?) of the new stuff. They have some funny moments too. But for the most part it is pretty bad television.
The biggest reason I've made a point of watching the newest season is this thread. Lots of people said the show has rebounded in recent years. I strongly disagree.

Same here. I can't believe people are liking this garbage. Maybe it's because of brand recognition?
American Dad was amazing Sunday night. Any Stan Smith episode is always a classic. Probably the best non-Simpsons animated character of all time. I still can't believe how much better American Dad is better than Family Guy. Oh well, different shows I guess.

Totally agreed that American Dad is great now, and also that Steve-heavy episodes are the best. That kid makes me crack up so hard. Anyone who gave up on AD during its crappy first year needs to give it a second chance. Its easily the best of FOX's animation Sunday Night shows and its not even close.

Just saw this sequence to start the episode Marge Be Not Proud, the one where Bart steals the video game.
Announcer: It's a Krusty Kinda Khristmas, brought to you by ILG: selling
your body's chemicals after you die. And by Li'l Sweetheart
Cupcakes -- a subsidiary of ILG.
Hahaha. And this:
Bart: Buy me Bonestorm or go to Hell! Marge: Bart! Homer: Young man, in this house, we use a little word called "please". Bart: It's the coolest video game ever! Marge: I'm sorry, honey, but those games cost up to and including $70.
And they're violent, and they distract you from your schoolwork. Bart: Those are all good points, but the problem is they don't result
in me getting the game. Homer: I know how you feel, Bart. When I was your age, I wanted an
electric football game more than anything in the world. And my
parents bought it for me, and it was the happiest day of my life.
[pause] Well, good night. [walks out]
