Spent around $7,000 on my wife's a couple years ago at Tompkins in Lethbridge. This company is awesome and will custom make you rings if needed as well. The ring was a 1.10 carat diamond in the middle with diamonds all along the white gold band. A year later, they made us a custom wedding band to go perfectly with the engagement ring.

Diamond pricing is a big marketing scam. I don't get the obsession. You'll never get your money back out of it (not that you'd try). Why not spend $1000 on a pure platinum band, and the the rest on something like an original painting that might appreciate in value.

My wife picked her ring out. My job was just to fly down to Vancouver, go to the place, and pay for it.
I don't know much about rings, but hers I think was just over 1K. Her band had diamonds all around. I know it's a princess cut so it's squared. I paid about $10 500 for it and I supposedly got a good deal lol. I got it from a wholesaler recommended to my wife by her sister who went to the same guy.

You paid $1000 or $10,500?

Spoken like a true business man!
Here's how you know you're the ultimate man: propose to your girlfriend with a candy necklace instead of a ring. Look her in the eyes, perform your speech / question with the ulitmate conviction and poise, and make her say 'YES!'.
Then, take the money you saved from buying a ridiculously expensive ring, and buy 70 PS3's instead.

$10 500
I kept telling her what a waste that was and it's better spent elsewhere

My gf's ring is\will be 2700, and that's almost as high as I would go. Good thing she picked it out too, cause jeebus that is an intimidating thing to try to do. Now... anyone got 2700 I can borrow?

Blue Nile was also great with me, diamond and the band are both excellent. Everything checked out with them for me.
I would almost go back to them but ever since we went to Brinkhaus to get our wedding bands made, we'll never go anywhere else. The service is excellent, pricing is decent and they have sweet watches for me to look at while she looks at her stuff.

Congrats on not getting dumped over Christmas! Unless this is a new asian girlfriend.

PS3s prices are probably going to drop when the next console is released. But I like your idea! If she really loves you then you don't need to buy her off with expensive jewellery.
Also, if she gets an expensive ring, shouldn't the guy get something nice too? The bride should buy the groom a Rolex or something.

Should you wait until after you're married to take full advantage of the tax benefits?
