Carcassonne is another one I think you'll enjoy

What about card games?

Love Letter:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/129622/love-letter

Before there was a sudden cessation of board games played amongst my friends, we even used this game to decide who goes first due to how fast we could play it.

Coup

Bohnanza:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/11/bohnanza

Grow beans, collect coins.

Monopoly deal:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/...deal-card-game

Actually fun to play unlike the board game version IMO because it's fast and you won't be playing for hours. Unless you have a bunch of turtle minded morons burning all the cash collection cards to defend so that there's very little attack options left...

5+ is a tough player count. Codenames or Just One are good games for larger groups, but don't really offer the head-to-head option.

I've got my eye on Long Shot: The Dice Game which would likely be a good fit. Plays any number up to 8 and is about a half hour game. The down side is it might be hard to find locally. Heat: Pedal to the Metal is quite popular right now but would maybe be a bit longer than you want and again, is hard to find in stores.

Photosynthesis, Codenames, and Bananagrams (not a board game). If you're looking for an energy-inducing card game, Dutch Blitz.

Oops, I missed the original 5+ adults criteria. You can easily combine two sets of Dutch Blitz and play 5-8 players by combining two card sets and then getting a stamp and stamping the second set for the sorting.

Great game for loud yelps and screaming.

Bananagrams is a good one too.

If you enjoy a little conflict and deception, I love Avalon for 5+ people. Games under 30 minutes and because it is random who is on what side, the games are different every time.

Puerto Rico is one of the best games of all time, and plays great for 3, 4 or 5 players. Once you've played a couple of times, play time should be under an hour even with 5 players.

Five player games are hard to find, and once you get to 5+ it's really tough to find games that are both good and not that long. If you think Cataan is long, then your group probably isn't up for Eclipse for example. Also, you have to be a pretty hardcore gamer to want to play Eclipse...

Stockticker has been our favourite game for years, grandson has already put out the challenge to his uncles for this year’s game.

Oh man, we had that when I was a kid, many years ago. Fun game. We also used to combine it with Monopoly so you could invest your Monopoly money in the market on the side. We had some epic games.

I’ll check out Dutch Blitz, sounds like it could fit the bill. We get a kick out of spoons which is as fast and mindless as they come.

We have bananagrams, another fav

We play a lot of similar games. Pandemic and Agricola are two on our list that I don't see on yours.

Haha Agricola is cutthroat and punishing! At least at 2 players.

King of Tokyo: Dark Edition. Actually quite a bit of fun. I have played King of New York previously and I found the dark edition makes for much cleaner and less clunky play.

For those that don't know, think Yahtzee with Kaiju.

Good call on Dutch Blitz, it was just our speed after Christmas dinner (we played Catan before dinner). I got the expansion pack which is another full set of 4 decks so 5 was no problem.

+1 for King of Tokyo or New York. Been a while since I played either so can’t remember which one I preferred, but they’re both fun and can be fast, which is nice.

If it’s the version, I’m thinking of it can be quite violent
