I believe Newt Gingrich answered this for us. He stated that it would be ok near Central Park, so that puts 59th street as the magical boundary beyond which people are no longer outraged.
59th street must be like that magical boundary between the first base line and the Kinsella farm in Field of Dreams.

Not on the north side, you're not.
But you should feel some anger swelling within as you walk across the street to the south side. In fact, I think that those "people" have even changed the pedestrian lights there so that the white outlined figure of the "walk" guy is clearly sporting a fez.

People from other countries for the most part but the American media also conveys the expectation. The Middle East and what the President is going to do about it is always a big test for any President; North Korea demanded America to be part of their nuclear treaty; Famine and genocide in Africa is seen as an American problem. Actually pretty much anything bad happens in the world America is held respoinsible either for what happened or to lead the response.

No I am saying opinions from Toronto are not important. Or I could be giving a quick correction. You choose.

Couple things here...
The Daily Show found out that the center is mainly being funded by someone who is the second largest shareholder of News Corp after Murdoch. Fox News keeps saying it is funded by a man who supports terrorism and they never say his name. Wonder why? Stupidity or covering up that he owns a sizable chunk of the channel?
Secondly, a voice of reason from the Republican side Joe Scarborough.
http://tv.gawker.com/5620051/morning...e-mosque-issue
Key point in all of this is how are we going to win the hearts and minds of the muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan when they see us treating muslims here like 2nd class citizens. Obama needs to come out and say the center belongs where it is to show the world that we aren't prejudice. Of course than the right wing nutjobs will say he is Islamic.
Honestly the amount of hatred that is being spewed in this country right now scares me. It's on a level I haven't witnessed since being alive. This mosque was announced a year ago. Why is it now an issue? Because the bat crazy right wing media wants it to be for election time. I voted for Barack, not exactly happy with what he has done, but also don't know if I would flip back the other way, because the republicans haven't attempted anything other than block everything that Obama tries to do. This is the most partisan time I have ever witnessed. And it has brought out the crazies in a big way. Fox News has shown they can spew and create hatred like no other media channel that I have ever witnessed. Never has a major liberal media channel treated a president with such disrespect. It is a scary time for the level headed people (right and left) in this country right now

Don't forget to mention that the donations from Newscorp have overall been close to a 50/50 split between the Democrats and the Republicans. Link.

I'm pretty sure that was established all the way back in 2004.
Maybe even 2000.

So how many American Muslims were on those planes again?
Salon has done a timeline on the Cordoba project. Here's one of many interesting tidbits:
Dec. 21, 2009: Conservative media personality Laura Ingraham interviews Abdul Rauf's wife, Daisy Khan, while guest-hosting "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox. In hindsight, the segment is remarkable for its cordiality. "I can't find many people who really have a problem with it," Ingraham says of the Cordoba project, adding at the end of the interview, "I like what you're trying to do."
(This segment also includes onscreen the first use that we've seen of the misnomer "ground zero mosque.") After the segment — and despite the front-page Times story — there were no news articles on the mosque for five and a half months, according to a search of the Nexis newspaper archive.

It really is puzzling the sudden outcry right now over the mosque being built.
Especially if the project has been in the works for a while now.

Not as puzzling as the popularity of Jersey Shore.
The New York Post, which is owned by Murdoch whom started Fox News, was the first newspaper to go full ###### over what really is a non story.
I seriously think we're going to dumb ourselves out of existence. Might take a bit of time, but we're a determined and stubborn bunch.
Just read this about 5 minutes ago:
"Some counterterrorism experts say the anti-Muslim sentiment that has saturated the airwaves and blogs in the debate over plans for an Islamic center near ground zero in Lower Manhattan is playing into the hands of extremists by bolstering their claims that the United States is hostile to Islam."

So?
At the end of the year the media empire donates about 50/50 to both Republicans/Democrats.
I'm going to take a guess and say the $1 million dollar cheque happened because of the Supreme Court ruling in regards to corporations and political donations.

And yet, if they build it, the same extremists are going to claim that they took down an iconic US 'symbol', and rebuilt a mosque in its place.
The way the US is looking at it right now they're putting themselves into a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't.'
From the start the claim should have always been, private building, if it meets proper requirements, let them build it, and lets not make a big deal out of it. If people WANT to make a build deal, just come out and say that all religions can equally choose to build their churches in the US without being oppressed.

You do realize that this center is 2 blocks away from ground zero? Besides that's not an inflammatory statement.
It wasn't a big deal until some crazy blogger started going on about it.

Been waiting for this article a while now.
Quote:
Much attention has been paid in recent days to a poll by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life showing that 18 percent of Americans incorrectly believe that President Obama is a Muslim. But the results of another Pew poll on religion released last December were far more shocking. It turns out that 36 percent of Democrats claim to have communed with the dead, and that 19 percent believe in casting a curse on someone using the "evil eye." Think about that: According Pew, more Democrats believe in the "evil eye" than Americans believe Obama is a Muslim.
The fact is you can find 20 percent of people anywhere who believe in almost anything. As The Post's Aug. 22 Outlook section noted, 20 percent of Americans believe that space aliens have made contact with humans on Earth.

So take your 'large number of Tea Party people are morons because they believe Obama is a Muslim(which hasn't been proven)'....and stick it you know where.
Fact is that a lot of stupid people from all kinds of political sides believe a lot of stupid things.
Trying to pin stupidity on one party just shows anyone's obvious bias, and their ignorance.
More reading material about what people believe.

So you think that if some crazy blogger can incite a public outcry in regards to the 'ground zero mosque'....some fundamental scumbag wouldn't do the same thing?

I'm confused. Are you talking about the same person now?
The crazy blogger/fundamental scumbag would have gone practically unnoticed if the New York Post didn't catch wind and being good newspeople recognized a way to sell a boatload of newspapers. Then since they're both under the same corporate umbrella, Fox New and their assorted bunch of loons, turned up the crazy. Which in turn has gotten the mouth breathers into a huge tizzy.
I'm hoping this will all go away once rasslin' starts up again.

The issue isn't the results of some idiotic poll, it's that there is a concerted effort on the part of right wing fringe groups to push complete fallacy as truth in order to discredit Obama, and those groups are starting to infiltrate mainstream politics. There's stupidity in every political sub-group, what's concerning here is the tactics taken and the apparent desire for factions of the population to buy it hook line and sinker.
