Just called Rogers and ordered an LTE mobile hotspot. While I was at it, I also swapped my 6GB data plan for the 10GB shared LTE plan. The best part was that I didn't have to extend my current contract or even add any new contracts. I bought the mobile hotspot for the full $200 no-contract price.

- Unlimited Eve & Weekend Minutes
- Unlimited Incoming Calls
- 6pm Early Evening Calling

Additional Charges

Zoinks. You're getting bent over on that voice plan. I get all that except free Fido to Fido/Rogers calling rather than my10 plus and my evenings start at 5 for ~$17.00. You should be able to reduce your cost closer to your contract expiry.

Yeah, I did something incredibly stupid a few months back that lost me my retention plan with Rogers completely. Now I'm back to square one in terms of negotiating with them. My goal right now was to just get a good solid base plan set up, and then I'll start picking away at them slowly just like I did last time.
Lesson learned: Some things are more important than having the latest phone.

300 daytime minutes
6GB Data
Caller ID
Voicemail 10
100 Canada wide Long Distance
Unlimited Long distance to a telus cellphone in Canada
Unlimited text, pic, video messaging
Early evenings and weekends
Telus to Telus
Still had 18 months left on my contract and I wanted the Galaxy Nexus. Called up retentions and cancelled the above contract for a charge of $5 per month instead of the usual $10/month
Resigned the SAME contract for 3 years and got the Nexus for FREE!!
So basically I extended my contract for 1 extra year and paid $90.00 for the nexus...can't complain!

Getting an iPhone once finals are over, which could be as early as Wednesday or Thursday, is there anything I should look for when I'm comparing plans?

Unfortunately, Rogers has really tightened up how they hand out credits in the last year. You can read all about it on redflagdeals.

Massive bump, but figured if anyone is on Rogers, you can match close to the lucrative fido $57 plan.
Just phoned in today, had my best retention/Rogers experience ever and got the following:
-Unlimited Canadawide Calling & Text
-VVM/CID/Ringbacks/100 International Text Messages (iPhone value pack)
-1 gb
for $56.40. Not a lot of data but will work for my wife and I.

Has anyone ever dealt with virgin mobile before?
Their offering a plan for $56.70 after taxes if you have your own phone.
It includes:
Unlimited local calling
Unlimited long distance within Canada
Unlimited text messaging (includes video and pictures)
Voicemail and caller id
2gb data
3way calling
Right now im with Rogers and my contract is up, so I've been switched to month to month.
For $66.70 after taxes I get:
My 10
200 day time min
Evenings and weekends after 6
Caller id and voicemail
Unlimited text (video and picture)
1gb data
I called their retention line and the offers they gave me all cost more than my current plan. You would think with being with rogers for 9 years and always having a credit balance on my account they would try to match.
So my main question is other than better prices at virgin mobile, how good their service? Does anyone have experience dealing with them? Also note I will have my own phone so no contrat or supertab.

FYI Virgin is partly owned/run by Bell. So you get some good network with them, and service I found is better than Bell.
Koodoo = Telus
Fido = Rogers
And Telus and Bell run on the same towers anyways.

Any good plans out there for new customers?
I gave my wife my plan when I got a BB from work but i can't stand it anymore and need a decent phone. Tried adding a line with Telus at the same plan i got from retentions but they wouldn't do it. I am not picky about providers, other than i wont use Bell. Looked at Wind and they seem decent but I live right on the border of their coverage and worry that i would get screwed.

Anyone with Fido, experiences etc?
After almost three years I'm ditching Wind. I don't mind roaming out of the city but in the past month I've moved and started a new job and both have poor Wind coverage, both are still in Calgary btw. Never had a problem at all up until now, shame.
I've looked this 60$/month but I'm not entirely sure if that's just for new contracts?
On my Wind plan I've only ever gone over 1GB/month like twice but don't mind paying a little extra for the 2 with Fido here. Just wondering what the coverage is like. Though I realize all of the providers have their dead spots. When I first came to Calgary there was a massive dead spot for Telus around the belt line.

I've had Fido for 3.5 years, and I don't really have any complaints. When I upgraded my phone 6 months ago, it was free to me because I was able to pay the upgrade fee with Fido dollars.
I don't have much trouble with coverage except outside the city in certain areas. 3G coverage in Calgary is pretty good, and LTE is getting better and better.

My iPhone 4 is starting to act up and it's only two years old, and I have one year left on the contract with Fido. I went to a place in the mall to inquire about getting a new phone, but I can't just get out of my contract and buying a new S4 would cost me like 600 bucks according to them.
What are my options? Should I call, say Telus, and see what a new contract with them would be and then take that info to Fido and see if they budge on giving me a cheaper phone right now? Maybe get out of the existing contract and sign a new three year deal?
Thoughts?

Three year contracts are gone, re-upping on the gouging two year plans isn't worth it. Order an insanely cheap and insanely amazing Nexus 4 right from Google Play. ;-)

Fido has no more three year plans at all? I can't just re-up my current plan if I wanted to, in a years time when it actually expires?

You can basically keep your current rate as is if you don't get a phone on contract. The moment you get a phone through a contract you are forced into a contract at the new rates. If you BYOD you get a 10% discount off the new going rate (not worth it given the $15/mo increase I was quoted). All previous rates are being grandfathered IIRC.
Basically it amounts to how long you plan on using the phone they give you and is it worth the rate increase for that phone over the two year span. Also some providers are still trying to sign people up to three year plans while simultaneously trying to appeal the retroactive two year limit provision of the new CRTC law. Dirty dirty providers if you ask me. Robellus are all still doing this as of a week ago.
