Exp:
I actually was allowed to board and look around the Antonov on Tuesday evening before it departed. One word only comes time mind...impressive.
It's overwhelming how large the frikkin thing is and my simple mind just cant fathom how the thing stays up in the air. Those rooskies sure can build big planes.

It is very cool, but what is even more impressive to me is that the A388 is bigger and has a higher Maximum Takeoff Weight than the A124 (the new 747-800 is also above it). Only the Antonov 225 is bigger and has a larger MTOW.
So I guess Icelandair is in town today, one of their 757's flew in around 0650 this morning and they are heading back to Keflavik at 0100 Friday morning.

True, but the Russian aircraft is much closer to an actual operational fighter than the X-29 ever was.
I remember playing with my little Micro-Machines X-29.
The X-29 was never intended to be a tactical fighter and the SU-47 never will be either. Both were designed as experimental "test" platforms. The U.S. long ago retired the 29 however. The SU-47, like nearly every other indigenous Russian aircraft owes it's basic design and execution to an existing American design.
So I tried to change the title of this thread to "Aviation Appreciation Station", it shows on the first post but not on the thread lists on the main page. Can a MOD take care of this?
