Pfft you sissy Jedi, Its clear that the Sith are where its at. After we slaughter you all, wear your entrails as custom jewelry, burn down your temple and have our way with your woman, we'll settle in for a night of Ping Pong and BBQ.

Angry misguided words of a Sith. Without knowing balance how will you ever succeed at a game such as ping pong?

SOE guy is forcasting two million subs of release or something like that. I think that will be heavily effected by the way the wind blows after the lifting of the NDA. If all the players who played come out with mostly good reviews then they'll at the very least get close. If they're even average then they'll miss that mark huge. If it's below average (which I expect) then there is a disntinct chance this game falls flat on his face and EA attempts an"APB" relaunch at the next viable opportunity. But that won't work because WoW will have an expansion due or just released every other year and there's a high probability the content will be better. Then there's also Diablo to worry about, Starcraft expansions. Essentially, if this launch doesn't go perfect EA will be Activision's bitch solely on the back of Blizzard as far as PC gaming goes.

Looks like they're using the exact pricing model of WoW:
Quote:
The game will come with one free month of service, and after that you'll be able to buy more game time at the following prices in North America: - $14.99 per month
- $41.97 for three months ($13.99 per month)
- $77.94 for six months ($12.99 per month)

Being a former WoW addict, and a huge KotOR fan (I think I played through the whole game twice), I was really excited about this game... until I saw the gameplay videos.
I'm not sure what it is, but I was just completely underwhelmed, and don't even know if I'll try it anymore. (edit: read Blaster's post after I posted this... summed up pretty nicely what might be the reason I'm not as excited as I was)

Got my email for the next round.
I'll get enough play in beta that I won't need to buy it!

See Blaster here is where I disagree - I think people, like with what happened with AOC is they are going to log in to the game, play it for a few months, experience the grind, experience new MMO bugs (which every single MMO experiences regardless of how much beta testing there is, and EA has a pretty bad rep for not doing enough testing), poor response time on bug fixes, poor customer service.
They think - why the heck am I playing this when everything that pissed me off about WoW is exactly what is happening in this game? I've created X number of characters in WoW before, why am I doing the exact same thing again?
Why am I starting over?
It takes years to get those things established.
There are countless games based on lore already, has the failure of SWG left everyone's mind already? Just because it has the franchise tag on it, doesn't mean that it will be successful.

Watching a bunch of the videos tonight, I feel like this looks more like KotOR 3 with Coop Multiplayer than it does WOW2:Star Wars Edition.

I'm back in the beta again too, for what that's worth. Curious to see how well received all the feedback has been.

I had a table in my basement for years,
and on that green paint I've seen many tears,
you wanna confront a paddle and 6'3"?
let's hope in the blender and mix up the meat - huh.

MMO pricing is just a huge turnoff to me. I might play once a month. PASS.

The difference is, WoW has no expansions coming. AoC came out a few months before WotLK, which was the expansion most players had been waiting for. TOR is coming out free and clear in a time when interest in the WoW story is waning. So there is no real WoW competition. But you are right, WoW players will jump ship if this is a vanilla WoW clone. I said as much in my post.

Because if the early grind is not as mind numbing as their first characters and the story is interesting and the end game content is solid, the pay off is worth it. But Vanilla WoW clone means they will feel the way you've described.

Which deviated from the WoW model (mistake one) and had huge balance issues (mistake two). It was a bad game and still moved one million units.

How something looks and how something plays are totally different. Also turn based does not work in an MMO setting. It makes PvP clunky.

And for those in denial that this game is going to be a WoW clone here's a quote from the VP and Creative Officer at Bioware
Quote:
“It is a touchstone. It has established standards, it’s established how you play an MMO. Every MMO that comes out, I play and look at it. And if they break any of the WoW rules, in my book that’s pretty dumb”

He is dead on correct, but some KotOR boosters (see a few posts up) are in denial.

Tried Aion and Rift when they came out...disappointed with both.
Really I am looking for a game where there is world pvp (and not just huge zergs of players running around). Pve I find extremely boring and repetitive and can't stand it...As sad as it is, WoW is still king even for pvp (and thats not saying a lot) with the bg's and arenas.
I've never really liked the Star Wars world so unless it gets amazing reviews especially regarding pvp, I really doubt I'll be checking this out. Might just give up on pvp in MMO's unless I make one myself and stick to dota2 when it comes out or something!
