I remember playing Civ 1 for the longest time. Those damned "Fanatics" were the worst....always ruining my plans.
Actually now that I think about it, I played all of the series' games a ridiculous amount (many good memories). One of my favorites was the WW2 scenario in Civ2, classic.

While the requirements are pretty heavy, I'm betting you could run it with a lesser system.
It's probably a lot to do with end of turn maintenance/calculations. You'd probably just be staring at the "End of Turn" cycle a lot longer.

yeah, definitely would want to stick with smaller maps and less civs to keep your times down.

The good ol' days. Five civilizations and we could never expand onto other planets. That's my biggest complaint.

The way the new steam protection works is that the game, randomly, contacts the steam server to get required parts of the game.
In essence, the game on your HDD is missing small, critical portions, that the game randomly requests from the steam server in an effort to combat piracy.
It's taking up to a month after commercial release for the scene to get a game out, now (purely for back purposes...What happens if steam goes bankrupt?! I don't want to lose what I bought).

Anyone else planning on taking advantage of Bestbuy's "Trade 2 get Civ5" promo?
My only concern is whether or not the list of "qualifying games" on their website is accurate (dont wanna buy a used game to trade, only to find out they wont take it).

^^^what is this? I can't see the promo on the site? But wow 50$ for the game, that's awesome. Wonder if there will be a charge for the online gaming part.

Looks very promising, especially if they've actually managed to make the game more managable. I found Civ IV to be too much like work.
Unfortunately I'm not sure if my laptop will handle it. Should, but barely.
But that's what demos are for, and that also comes out in two days. Until then.
And based on the deluxe edition miniatures,
 there's mechs!
The game has definitely been lacking in future tech, it seems they have done at least something to fix that. A layer or two of future tech weapons and buildings would definitely improve the endgame part.

This is all Greek to me, but I am optimistic the laptop I got last Christmas should be able to run it well. I'm running Civ IV no problems.
I've told my girlfriend I want Civ V for my birthday but that is a whole week and a half away.. I don't think I can wait that long!!

There's a mod in Civ IV that has mechs and other future weapons.
