Kind of like Oiler fans evaluating the talent of their team.

Yeah!
Point is I don't think that thing is capable of supporting a 50lb kid.

This is what happens on a 24 hour news channel.

Wouldn't it be neat if something really cool and spontaneous happened-something with a happy ending of course-that CNN could report instead of what is most likely some scripted attention-getting BS?

I should be clear, if the boy was on board at one time and did die, it's obviously a sad story. My point is that CNN is a joke. Much more important news out there to cover.

This reminds me a lot of the day when Payne Stewart's plane decompressed and flew over the midwest on auto pilot. just one of those compelling stories that you can't help but follow.
Hopefully the kid simply released the balloon rather than climbed into it.

But it's not about what's important. It's about what people want to know. And right now people what to know what happened with the balloon.

I suspect CNN has already gained knowledge of the boys location and that he is safe and sound. But why not string the "Sheeple" along for a few more hours?

The first thing I thought when I heard this was "publicity stunt".

Based on the dimensions they gave, the balloon would have been close to 1570 cubic feet, which would be enough to lift 81 pounds. I have to think that the balloon plus a 6 year old would probably weight at least that much. Even if not, it would have been close enough that it would have taken off slowly and the kid would have had plenty of time to jump out. It sounds to me like the kid was never in there.

Hopefully they aren't trying to hide something... hopefully it is a misunderstanding, and the boy is OK.

I think there will be a criminal investigation:
1) If the boy was in the balloon, for criminal negligence;
2) If this was a publicity stunt, criminal mischief.
CNN reports the rescue operation [was] watched live worldwide - not just an "American media event".

Here's an interesting video of the "builder" of this balloon.
He's talking about the civilizations that are on Mars.

Now Sherrifs are saying the boy climbed into a "box" that was attatched to the balloon and now there is a massive search going on looking for this box.

So this is very bad news, They have pretty much proven by the balloons flight charachteristics that there was no "payload" But the siblings account of seeing the boy climb into the balloon was obviously misconstrued as the child climbing into a "box"
very worrysome indeed.
