What a ridiculous question. That was a WORLD CHANGING day. God forbid people reminisce.

Yeah, God forbid we remember stuff like this and try to make a difference so it doesn't happen again.

Go back to sleep then . . . . .
I was just pulling out onto the highway, a mile off a gravel road from my home, when the QR77 radio host said a plane had crashed into the WTC and they switched to a live ABC News feed.
My first inclination was to turn around - being only minutes from the house - but I had stuff to do that morning so duty called.
I was nearing my office in a rural town - heading east, the telephone poles alongside the two lane blacktop starting to be backlit against the morning glow - when another bulletin had a second WTC being hit. I phoned Mrs. Cowperson on cell and told her to get the tv on . . . . then pulled into my office a short while later.
Most of the major news websites were jammed and impossible to load - CNN, USA Today, etc. - but I eventually found a back door through CNN Financial News and saw the first images.
Within an hour workers were being told at this particular national firm they had the option of going home and, although I was independent of that decision, I called an appointment I was expecting and we agreed it would be inappropriate to continue as is. I headed home and the first tower had already collapsed before I got there with Mrs. Cowperson describing coverage of people leaping to their deaths rather than burning. I then saw the first live tv images and watched the second tower collapse.
A story on the one year anniversary at Calgarypuck remembers what the board was like that day.
http://web.archive.org/web/200212071...ton_091102.htm
Come to think of it, as the story notes, 9/11 spawned the birth of the Off-Topic Board at Calgarypuck.

I was in my apartment, in Japan, flipping through channels. It was 11 pm and nothing was on so I decided to check CNN before heading to bed. Saw the first tower on fire. Thought is was some idiot in a Cessna smacking the building while showing off to his friends.
Watched the second plane smack the second tower and the guest then announcing that, "We are under attack". Ripped the phone from my wife's grasp and called my friend to turn on CNN. They then announced that their were 2 other planes in the air. I stayed up until all 4 planes had been downed.
Woke up the next day and went to work. Before I could look on the internet a teacher had told me that both building came down. Spent the whole day on the internet worrying whether my family members were ok or not.
Fortunately the next day I found out that they were all ok. It was also that last day I had any affiliation with the Liberal party of Canada.

I recall how choked up I got when I read this poem in the days that followed 9/11.
CLIMB HIGHER
A Tribute the New York City Firefighters
Keep on climbing, says the Captain, Up through the smoke and smell;
Keep on climbing, says the Captain, I think I heard somebody yell!
Keep on climbing, says the Captain, Alive or dead, Not ours to tell.
Keep on climbing, calls the Captain, Forget about your pain!
Keep on climbing, shouts the Captain, We have a few more stairs to gain.
Keep on climbing, yells the Captain, We will bring them down again.
Keep on climbing, cries the Captain, If I can so can you.
Keep on climbing, orders the Captain, Right now, I need your best from you.
Keep on climbing, screams the Captain, Forget about those sounds.
It’s just some girders twisting, and some concrete falling down.
Keep on climbing, whispers the Captain, Climb right up to that light!
Right up to that sunshine, No smoke to smell, no fire to fight.
Keep on climbing, sings the Captain, That angel’s hand will lead the way.
Rest boys, sighs the Captain, You did your job today.
Keep on climbing, prays Our Captain, Eyes raised, headed for the top.
And when you’re tired and feel like quitting, remember them, they did not stop

That is effed up, but maybe you can put your mind to rest by knowing that the towers were struck at 8:46 am and 9:03 am, hours and hours before your parents would have shown up for their lunch meeting/date/event. Even had they been in New York at the time, unless your parents are the get there really, really early types, they wouldn't have been in the towers.

Perhaps the response Jean Chretien had to the attacks? Took him a long time before he got down there to tour the site I believe.

Maybe, then he should have said the party's reaction to 9/11 led him to break off his affiliation. He said 9/11 was the last day he had any affiliation with the Liberal party and that makes no sense to me.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I want to piss of Gimp.
I woke up to CJAY 92 and Jerry Forbes was talking about how a terrorist attack had cost thousands of American lives and I couldn't help but think of what horrible taste his joke was.
Went to the 'rents room and turned on the TV just to be sure and my heart just sunk. Didn't go to school because I didn't feel like it. My mom and my chemistry teacher would tell me the next day "life goes on" but I wasn't so sure.
Never listened to CJ again though.
Also, based on nothing, I'm almost sure that American troops tracked down Bin Laden and executed him shortly thereafter. His demise was not publicized as it would have made him a martyr and a hero in some circles.
It's probably just hopeful naivete though.

Hmm, I was on my wait to SAIT listening to the Team 960, and they mentioned that plane had struck the WTC. When i got to class, I joked with my classmates about how dumb the pilot could be to fly into the towers. Didn't even cross my mind that it could have been intentional.
Got into class, and our instructor mentioned that 2 planes had flown into the WTC, and then it got a little more serious. I pretty much spent the entire day doing nothing but trying to watch what was happening.
I don't think I got to sleep until 2am that morning. I was watching CNN the entire night.

Anyone else STILL watch the news more than they ever did before 9/11? It kinda seems like every time I turn on the TV I half expect to see something along the 9/11-Katrina-Tsunami line happening somewhere in the world.
