Cause flicking your smoke is funner then just putting it out. You get to launch it full speed at stuff! Ive had many a smoke flicking competition. And its like you know how bad they are so when your done its like, BOOM see ya!
Who wants to stick their hands in a dirty ashtray anyway? Plus flicking it saves time. And ive burnt my finger putting it in an ashtray.
Plus it just snows anyways, covering the butts, turning them into filter fuzz, and then broken apart come summer. Its the natural way of things LMAO.
I could go all day with excuses. None of which are acceptable.
I quit smoking over a year ago.

Yeah... not addictive narcotics. You seem to have missed the point.

I'm not speaking for society i'm stating a fact. Smokers used to be able to smoke in bars. resturants, workplace, outdoor patios etc. People looking down on smokers and no longer looking at it as a socialy acceptable habit.. You don't think you're being ostricised?

Correct. He DOES however speak for the 82% of Canadians who aren't interested in your second hand cancer cloud.

Dude, are you friends with Flip? What's with all the smokers calling anyone who doesn't want to live in the 50's (smoke everywhere all the time) "holier than thou?"
Lots of factual arguments presented why there shouldn't be public smoking anywhere, and you dudes dismiss them as a "minor annoyance".
I love you man. Kick the habit so you can post for years to come. Join the darkside!

I definitely do lose a bit of respect for someone when I find out that they are a smoker. I can't help it, I just think its a silly, disgusting, expensive habit, and can't really understand why people choose to start doing something where the negative aspects have been known for years. I'll never get on someone's case for smoking, but yeah inside I'll probably think a bit less of them.
If people think less of me for thinking less of smokers, well, I'm completely okay with that. We're human... we're all judgemental about something.

"Factual arguments" that lack total common sense.
About the health care system:
The only statistic that is correct: 100% of us will die of something.
With the exception of the very few of us who will have instant and unexpected deaths, we will all cost the health care system a lot of money in our deaths. My grandma died of a smoking related stroke at 65. She was dead overnight and cost the health care system very little. My Grandfather died of liver cancer which slowly spread to other parts of his body. He suffered for 6 years before dieing in his early 80s. During that suffering he cost the health care system millions. Please explain to me how smoking costs the health care system. The only difference is that my grandfather did not contribute millions of extra tax dollars like my grandmother did when she bought cigarettes.
Just in case you missed it the first time: WE ALL DIE.
Second hand smoke:
Second hand smoke does not go through a filter, but it is dissipate into much lower concentration by the time it reaches the non-smoker. Studies have shown that if you constantly exposed to second hand smoke day after day in confined environments, there is an outside chance of an effect on your health. You smelling smoke outside has ZERO effect on your health. If it does have an effect it is considerably lower than the effect of the hundreds of thousands of people using their cars everyday in Calgary.
health of smokers
Everybody knows smoking is bad for you. Some choose to do it anyway. It's the same as drinking, eating fattening foods, or basically anything else that is fun.
Guess what we live in a society where people are free to make their own decisions.

Your coming up with facts, stats, and numbers (which I don't agree with by the way) that support your side. WE / I, just think it's gross. It is unpleasant to walk through when someone smokes, it's gross to be in their car, it's just a gross habit. We can't argue opinion. You clearly think it's cool, we think it's gross. Neither of us is going to change the others mind. However, the world is turning into a more non-smoker friendly place.

I judge fatties all the time. They are disgusting, sweaty, and silly and they lack self control and do something where the negative aspects have been known for years. They overflow their seats on buses, trains and planes even though we bombard them all day with pictures of skinny people. Don't they get it?
I also feel the same about speeders, drinkers, pot smokers and the Belgians.

Stop whining and mind your own business. You come across as extremely annoying. Does the fact I'm annoyed by you now give me the right to correct your behaviour because I define it as "asinine, pointless, dangerous, and worthless" to me?
We live in a society of lots of people. That guy smoking outside does not affect your health in any way. Every day Calgary has 100,000s of cars operating burning litres of gasoline. Does someone burning part of a tobacco leaf really affect your air quality? No, you just find it annoying and your looking for any reason to prove your better than other people.
The truth is you do not have the right to prevent people from smoking. All your doing is exaggerating stats and making up facts in order to force your will upon others.
Seriously, mind your own business.

smoking is such a useless, disgusting and expensive habit that you will continue to be looked down upon as an idiot by those who weren't dumb enough to get sucked in by marketing and peer pressure. deal with it

Hate to break it to you but people with no rational thinking skills are equally looked down upon. That includes the anti-smoking crowd who is incapable of discerning propaganda from rational arguments.
For the record, I do not smoke. I have had the occasional "social" cigarette, but I unlike many people in this thread am capable of making my own decisions. Thank you very much.

You know what I hate the most? Smokers who dont follow the bylaw and walk 20ft (or whatever it is) from building entrances downtown and smoke. But instead are so lazy and just take 2 baby steps from the door and light it up there. So when we walk out of the door, bam us non smokers are hit with their smoke.

Look at at the amount of tax in booze and smokes. The government will add that tax to the cost of weed. You dont think gangs will continue to grow if they can undercut the price of the government?

Agreed! Decriminalization FTW!
Legalization equals life sentences for grow op owners and Saskatchewan dirt weed for consumers.
Anyways on topic...
I'm a smoker... not proud of it... want to quit but have to want to first. Anyway I always try to find an ashtray or pop can or something to toss butts into. I get choked when Im diving down the road, at night, and a tumbling, rogue fireball comes flying out of the car thats ahead of me.
Comon people it makes Smokey Bear cry.

So is it bad that I smoke, understand the potential health problems, and don't give a crap because we all only live once?
That being said, I am a polite smoker, I won't smoke when kids are around and follow the 15 foot from a doorway law we have here now.

Haven't you been reading this thread.
You're:
1) a cancer and burden on society;
2) unable to think for yourself;
3) an idiot; and
4) someone who deserves to be looked down upon.
Did I miss anything?

Except for the fact the poster mentioned how polite they are about their smoking. I sincerely doubt they go around carelessly throwing lit buts into grass fields.
