No front runner in the SF QB contest. Both are pretty solid to this point. One nice thing is it seems like for the first time in 2 years Alex Smith is doing every throw pain free. Shaun Hill has always been solid in the short throws, but has been making some great throws down the field.
On another note, on the the Niner beat writers is saying Vernon Davis has been the star of camp so far.

That being said, I think I'm getting excited to see how Harvin is used in the Minnesota offense. Him plus Peterson will be an explosive combo, and can't be hard to have them on the field at the same time.

Haha agreed. I don't even have a Twitter account, but I can't believe how many times I've looked up Malcolm Jenkins' twitter just through Google, to find out about his contract talks. Now I see Reggie Bush and Drew Brees just signed up for Twitter in the past week or two and I've been checkin out those.
It's funny how they all talk to each other too, I saw Chad Ochocinco wrote on Bush's page that he's gotta tell the Saints secondary that they're in trouble because he's gonna go all out for the Saints/Bengals game this weekend.

This is absolutely bananas. Kolb is concerning but I hardly even consider him a factor even if McNabb were to get hurt. Losing another playmaker on D, however, is a big concern. Preseason can't end soon enough.

haha, pre-season hasn't even started for all but 2 teams.
But I fully agree, anything more than 2 pre-season games is too much.

I don't know. If I were a guy trying to make the team, the more games the coach can see me in the better

I actually like getting a bunch of RSS feeds on an aggregation site. So I use Netvibes, and have a bunch of RSS feeds there including the rss of some twitter feeds. So I'm not alerted immediately, but whenever I look I can see the latest articles and/or tweets.
Edit: BTW, I like this method best, because if I read "Today promises to be the hottest of camp. Calling for a high temp of 91 degrees." I really don't mind if I don't get the message immediately.

JuddZulgad (Star Trib)
SI_PeterKing - got some good insight, especially with him going to every camp during the preseason
Adam_Schefter - is addicted to Twitter.....tweets like crazy.
mortreport - get's VERY annoying at times, but has some nice tidbits
richeisen - some good info and some good humor.
and this random Daniel Jeremiah, he's some type of independant scout. Has some good tidbits about some teams, but can be annoying at times. If anyone's interested in looking at him @MoveTheSticks.
edit: guess I should add links and comments.

Glad to see the Falcons re-signed Roddy White
http://www.atlantafalcons.com/
As well as some WR vets, Marty Booker and Robert Ferguson. They needed the help with Harry Douglas out for the year with a leg ingury.

Speaking of Derrick Brooks. He is trying out for the Saints as we speak.

No, but Herm has been at Eagles camp all week and is doing PBP for all of their preseasons games. Baskett should be fine, but he may be in tough to make the team. I think this will be the first time I can ever remember saying this, but the Eagles are stacked at receiver.
Even after his knee injury, Jackson is still untouchable. At first I wondered if it was only the Eagles staff that were saying this, but ESPN is taking notice too.

Second-year receiver DeSean Jackson has been dominant in camp. The Eagles have a talented secondary, but not even All-Pro Asante Samuel has come close to covering Jackson.
|
Receivers should be Jackson, Curtis, Maclin, Avant, Brown/Baskett going into this season. If they keep six then Baskett should be there, but apparently Reggie Brown has been having a strong camp and might fight him off for the 5th spot if they only keep five. I like Baskett better because he's a bigger target in the red zone.

Apparently Dewayne Bowe has been moved to the third team by first year coach Todd Haley. In other breaking news, Matt Cassell is an interception throwing machine in camp. I guess with the big contract in place he doesn't have to prove himself anymore. Either that or he is a backup QB at heart.

Or he was the product of a really good system, and was protected by one of the best minds in NFL history.

Wow. Surprising about Bowe. Not surprising about Cassell.
I have been hearing really good things about Larry Johnson, including his attitude. Again, surprising to me.

Brandon Marshall is now a second teamer.
http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/nf...am?eref=fromSI
"The team’s top three receivers are listed as Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokley and Jabar Gaffney, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched training camp"
Thing is that reports out of camp before Marshall got a little gimpy is that he was making spectacular play after specatcular play. So to me, the above quote means the other 3 guys have been absolutely stellar.

Bowe on the third team? That is a noodle scratcher. Must be trying to motivate him.... as all the offseason talk was that he'd be the next Fitz under Haley.

A career clip board holder with an elite QB contract. I'm in the wait and see camp with Pioli. Still, his contract for Cassell is a move that just seems so incredibly dumb. You have to wonder if he told Cassell that he would split the money with him or something. It just does not make any sense. Even if Cassell does end up being a decent QB. They still could have signed him for much less.

Reports that Vick will sign in the next five days. Adam Schefter guesses New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Green Bay, or Carolina.
