Anybody else wondering what an 'A' quality worker is?

Strange terminology

A Type 'A' person/personality type, was how I interpreted it. But I could be wrong.

I was trying not to confuse the 2. "A" quality worker is something a lot of Microsoft guys use that I started to adapt.

Intelligent, self-motivated, well-rounded and not just an expert in just one field, the ability to use knowledge in your field to apply to other fields, those who do their work with pride and not for a pay check, driven but patient, the ability to do things never done before ... hopefully doesn't require good spelling...in my case. In a science/engineering related field, the science is the easy part. Learn and regurgitate, its like a process that any moron can do. The "artistic" part of science is the challenge.

Basically, a "A" quality person is someone Microsoft, Google and Facebook would hire. A "B" quality is still a quality worker, but one that probably isn't as driven or is able to do the job s/he is asked, but doesn't go beyond to do things never been done before. A "C" is another league below, then "D" then so on.

In a few interviews I did, some tested for this self-termed "A" quality designer, 3 rounds of interviews and a written test. The interview would start out with a 1 hr written test of questions of fundamental questions. The first round was a little bit of a "get to know you," a few questions to test your personality and motivation, etc. Second wrong was a test of my resume, where they would ask about specific questions about my design project, and I would have to justify it so they know I wasn't BS. The 3rd round would be the tougher technical question, where they would basically test me until I run out of knowledge. A few companies I hope to work for interview like that, and hire based on the person rather then posting jobs (i.e. you submit a resume, and if they like you, they find a position for you; but they don't post job). I was brought in a few times for an interview for some of these companies for jobs, but since my industry is based on people buying new iPhones and faster cable modems or whatever, these jobs were never created. Right now, I think there are a few holes (personally and in my resume) I'd like to fill and work on - you are as strong as your weakest link, and its often hardest to try and improve these weaknesses then to work on your strengths, so its something I sort of see as a channel to success, so I guess thats why I harp on it so much.

OT: A list of "Principles" of a company I'll probably work for, some are cheezy, some telling, but one I thought was really funny

Do not let others stop you, lead you astray, or waste your time; be polite and move on with your goals. Indulgence in idle conversation is a waste of everyone's valuable time and should be saved for a more appropriate setting, outside of work.
(i should really stop pissing time away twittering on the random thoughts thread)

Yup, I very much realize that. I kind of just threw it out there to prove a point that I'm materialistic to some degree, and do like fancy toys - not really as big of a deal as this thread made it out to be. I don't really sit around all day daydreaming about owning a jet or anything. Sort of like the basejumping comment, I don't know if I'll ever have the guts to do it, but its something I do have written down on a list of goals and there's a few things I gotta do before I have the guts to go basejumping. I didn't think throwing something out there in the context I did would create such controversy. (whoops)

Quite honestly, as I said, I don't even know if what I'm going to do is going to work. I guess in 15 years if you hear about a Calgarian that went to UofA and now lives in California being a rich yuppie and buying a jet, I guess that could be me.

Buy a tent and an airline ticket and disappear for a year.

I don't mean that in a smartass way.

Hmm something I've always wanted to do, actually. I almost did it when I finished high school and just wanted for F off for a few months before I went off to university, but then I started dating a girl. After god knows how many years of school of assignments, projects, labs and exams, the smaller things in life get lost by the wayside and I really would like to get back to enjoying finer aspects of life rather then the "go go go" to meet specific goals/timelines that university life entails (and not just university, but everything from student groups/clubs, sports, etc). Its amazing after a long and exhausting semester, to go out and summit some mountain that no one is on, its just... relaxing.

I did travel a bit when I finished my undergrad degree last year, but I actually found myself somewhat lonely for 1 week in between (I did the first 4 weeks with a friend, 1 week alone, 1 week with bro-in-laws siblings, 1 week with family, then 1 week alone). Found out that I don't do very well when I leave my brain to wonder too much.

BUT... I've always wanted to run off to Bolivia, or Nepal or Norway and learn to enjoy the finer parts of life. however, I sort of see the first 2 years as crucial in establishing myself as I do see there being an expiration date on my skills (i.e. 7 years) if they arn't properly developed, so I don't want to have too much time between finishing school and working. But I do want to take 1 month off when I finish in December to travel (Peru/Bolivia... bugging a certain CP poster to go with me , another that recently may be coming up is India/Sri Lanka)
