Agreed. Weirdly, when I first came down here, I wondered aloud why we didn't get Good Friday off at the U of Iowa. I was informed, indignantly, that it's because "we have separation of church and state!"
Canada effectively has far more separation of church and state. And I like getting a long weekend at Easter, thanks very much!

I do agree, I was just mentioning it didn't bug me THAT much.
I don't follow a faith anywhere near to that, but stuff like that doesn't really bug me, I don't feel like I'm being excluded. Sometimes I think the atheists take it a bit too far. Like hearing a prayer is going to cause them harm, or infringes on their rights.
Don't confuse religion with laws, with rules, I agree. Keep it out of the courts, the congress, the laws, etc. But is there really anything wrong with a prayer here and a statue there?

Totally agree. The 'hype' and 'celebration' is due to a number of things happening all at once today when power is handed over to Obama. If you believe the polls, this is the unhappiest Americans have EVER been with their leadership. It's a turning over of a new leaf for the country when they can start over, and to the general population, it's a time for celebration. Thus, the dramatic hype today.
Add to that, the other aspects like Obama being the first black president given their people's history in the US and the level of celebration to me is clearly warranted.

I was getting an oil change earlier and I started getting misty-eyed watching coverage in the waiting room. I'm so pathetic.
Now I'm sneaking in streaming coverage, and trying not to get too emotional at the office!

So far, a great example of how practice and technique play a key role in delivering a great speech - more so than natural ability.
He is nervous up there. But only the throat gives it away.

Guy is a hell of a speaker. Must be damn tough to stand in front of that many people, in his position and make a speech like that.

I didn't even realize it was today.
I'd be very proud if I was an American.

Can't get CNN at work. Did he mention anything about the first executive order being to institute a college football playoff?
