I agree with the moral arguement and that's why I pay everyday. My point was there's economic incentive to avoid paying and increased fees will also increase this avoidance.

I'm not president of any group. 2 years ago, yes (a citizen's advocacy group). Now, I'm just a professional and yes, a concerned citizen.

I didn't think we had poor quality services 10 years ago, but even if that's the case then any way you slice it it's still not just the extra people we are paying for, but an increase in scope.

I think he is saying, pay the $3.00 a day parking rate but dont pay the $90.00 a month transit pass. Saving you money in the long run if you dont get caught.

The appraoch I was mentioning was to pay for parking but not pay for the C-train once you got to the station.

I'm all for increased user fees. Pay for what you use is just fine by me! In Norway for instance the price you pay to take the bus varies depending on how long you are on the bus for. Most major roads have toll booths, the further you drive the more you pay. The granola's get a good transit system and the families get great infrastructure, win win!

But what do I know, I live in a "600sq. ft. downtown apartment" and by that I mean a 1000sq. ft. detached bungalow in Sunnyside that is still a 15min walk to work...

My apolagies if this is a redundant comment, I'm not able to read the whole thread... While I'm not opposed to parking fees, I think the city needs to consider the unintended effects of this policy, namely, people parking in resdidential areas or in business (mall etc) parking lots and hooving it to the station. e.g. People will just park in the Zellers parking lot in Shawnessy rather than paying.

I will apologize before hand but i will be parking in front of someones house and walking the 2 blocks to avoid spending 900 bucks a year.

Agree with Ditches Toll Booth idea for Airdrie and surrounding and they drive to the zoo park then train downtown !!

I am sure they will put parking restrictions on all those area's closest to each station. At an additional cost to all the taxpayers.

^ probably already included in the 9.4% tax Increase for next year.

Also if I am paying $3/day for parking they should be able to have the 18 transit officers so that my stuff doesn't get stolen and bums get kicked off the train.

Some of the council members already voiced this issue...but voted for it anyway.

The weird thing is I don't actually mind the fees. If the city charged anywhere near what transit costs and gave half way decent services everyone would probably be happy.

But we all know what they charge will have no relation to services. They've got a gym to build.

Where do you draw the line?

I don't ride the bike path, should there be tolls on there?
I don't have any kids, why should I pay education taxes?
Should Universities get any government funding?

I agree it's not ALL to do with just growth, however lots of the increase just has to do with just keeping up with basic services and building expensive infrastructure to the periphery, which is less efficient the way we grow now. My argument is about efficiency in deploying services and the cost of infrastructure.

Increasing types and levels of service is related but a bit of another argument.

On another note, from that article I linked earlier (http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...1-f0cd8be72357); is that saying the $8 recycling fee has been voted down (even though they already bought the trucks and bins) and that there is now a $4/month garbage pickup fee?

I notice the NE is somewhat lacking in these zones. The only place is the Rundle station, and that is mainly because of the combined mall/train/hospital mess in the area.

One on the CBC site from today says they approved it.
