Yes i've done stupid things, but at the same time i never talked about it because i was embarrased by the situation and didn't want others to know or point fingers at me.

I bet you didnt get too many high-fives for awesomeness either.
If they want the notoriety for the deed they have to deal with the condemnation that naturally comes along with it.
I for one, would be willing to head out to a pub to hear about this story from the guys first hand.
Hell, this sounds like the only rec hockey team in Calgary that I would actually want to come and watch just to see what happens.

Keep in mind I was still hammered when I started this thread. But even so, I don't mind hearing the bad with the good, cause in the end it's just one more thread to follow and be entertained by right?

That's the thing, we're not getting overly defensive because there really isn't a whole lot to defend. I pretty much layed out what happened, said it wasn't smart, but we had fun, and then let people weigh in. I haven't tried to justify anything, it was just a night of drunken hockey in some small town, and really, like Jayems said earlier, the major events (suspensions) were actually caused by the soberer guys.

I'm not embarrassed at all by my actions. I did absolutely nothing wrong. i'm just trying to be objective and to clarify what happened. Some of my teammates did some embarrassing things, but all-in-all, the 12/15 guys just went out and had some fun. it really is too bad it went south. but this is the last I'll post here, as I think i've at least made note that it was a few bad apples, not the whole team. maybe the thread will dissapear into the interwebz

I would just like to correct the order here, not that it is particularily important, but the alledged abuse of officials happened after the game was ended because they were angry that it was.
As for weighing in on the suspensions,
77, i can't excuse his actions either.
19, not 5 game worthy IMO but i could see a case being made for it.
8, steaming load of BS, he got 5 for a 2 minute collision because the ref decided he was gonna try to show up a bunch of drunks and lost control of the game because of it, and I say this as the sober DD who was on the ice and saw the collision happen.
As for it being dumb, i agree, that being said, at this point in my life dumb and fun are not mutually exclusive. Theres definately a line that one divides dumb and stupid but this did IMO definately did not cross it.

However, I will take the blame for one thing....The line of communication between refs and players being cut off. The ref recognized me as being drunk right away, because when I went to give him our gamesheet I may have stumbled on a few words (all of them). From that point on, even though I was responsible out there, he wouldn't talk to me or listen to me (I'm the captain btw), so I think that was part of the reason why the game fell apart, lack of communication, and it was unjust imo.

So that's why no one would talk to me.... there goes my argument.

Yeah that's the thing, the two major suspensions weren't handed out until after the game had been called. I think the fact that we played shinny with other team shows that the refs overreacted.

Well... hopefully this doesn't have an adverse affect on how our team is treated in the future, but I guess we made our own bed.

I don't think that nullifies the argument, I was responsible out there and he easily could have talked to me, you were responsible and have an A on your jersey, and Scott didn't have a single drink and had an A on his jersey. He just had it in his head that the whole team was sloshed and that he was going to send a messege to us imho.

I'm sure our reputation amongst refs will be a tough thing to shed...but given the absolutely horrible reffing we've had this season it truly can't get any worse...can it?

Once we start playing the lower div teams in a couple of weeks here, it shouldn't matter, I think we'll be the team to beat.

...and a little of topic, but Rhettzky can you play on Thursday at 9:30 at NESS? With our suspensions and others who can't make it, we're sitting at 8 or 9 if everyone else shows up.

yes it can. two years ago every game we played we got ^&%#ed over because of an incident that happened the year before.
new refs have come in and a year of sucking and not doing anything and we get the odd bad game but nothing too bad
i had a game were i was completely drunk this year saturday after the 2nd cancuks game in oct, drank almost as 26 of rye, held it together good. even got an assist.

It was 2-1, and most of the penalties came after the game. But we're on a win-streak now, and I managed to get the ref to talk about it and apologized for the team about 5 games ago... he was pretty good about it. Said he had seen our team lots before, and this was out of character. Water under the bridge now.. I hope.
Except now when random refs see us in the halls at the rink, they ask if we're drunk... lol
