Hmm maybe a step in the right direction ... so long as it is a real competition.

From said story (thanks for posting)

Quote:

"As a result of his decision, we invested considerably in a new and different future without Brett and we were obviously moving in that direction. That's why this wasn't easy. Having crossed the Rubicon once when Brett decided to retire, it's very difficult to reorient our plans and cross it again in the opposite direction -- but we'll put this to our advantage."
OK...now I know I am far from the worlds smartest man....hell I am no where even near the smartest man on this site.. But holy crap...to the above quote I say...... WHAT???

This guy is speaking to Green Bay fans and national media only...what in THE hell kind of speak is that???

I know most put the blame of this fiasco mostly on Favre....I dont agree but I certainly understand the reasons why it may be that thought of way..... but holy crap!! This prepared "statement" IMO only shows that the Pack were playing chicken with BF and were stunned he actually called their bluff today. The guy wants to play when he says "I want to play"...not sure why TT would think otherwise. This really seems to of been GB's managements "position". Stupid, as I have said a dozen times.

truly...if this is an open competition...Aaron Rodgers will lose for one more year....and then likely inherit a team with a whole bunch of REALLy good players. And that is OK.

Isn't the Rubicon in Italy or some place like that? Did they move the Rubicon to Wisconcin at some point when I wasn't looking?

I have to wonder if Rogers will demand a trade shortly, he has to be tired of waiting.

Brandon Marshall to be suspended 3 games: http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...o&confirm=true

DFF, what is going on with this guy?? I caught a few Broncos games last year and he looked like a stud, his size and style reminds me alot of Marques Colston. When last season finished, I felt he was on his way to becoming one of the premiere big WR's in this league.

You obviously know your team and its players alot more than I. So is this looking like just a lapse in judgement of a decent player, or does the guy belong on the Cincinnati Bengals?

Well I managed to get tickets to the Seahawks and Rams game on September 21st. Wasn't an easy task though...I was online at 10:00 local time when they went onsale and couldn't get two tickets together....than being a dumb rookie I accepted a single ticket in the family zone.....guess I'll be bringing some hand sanitizer with me so I can high 5 a bunch of kids....

Interesting article about T.O. here

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...yhoo&type=lgns

Even as a Cowboys fan, it's a LITTLE too pro-Owens, but still a good read.

Totally NOT Bengals territory. The suspension will be reduced to 2 games when he agrees to go to counseling. The kid is a stud. He'll be the best receiver in the game within 3 years IMO.

He's a GREAT kid, who needs to learn to control his emotions. I believe the Broncos have this under control. The suspension is related to issues from the past, it's not really anything new.

That reminds me, do you or anyone else know where to get the tickets from the 'independant business men' for Hawks games? I'll be a buyer this year for a game. I'm thinking North end of that big parking lot North of the stadium but am not sure, any thoughts? Also is it legal to buy or sell scalped tickets in Washington?

Boy I really hope Dorsey doesn't turn out to be a $51,000,000 band aid. Albert could miss the rest of camp, which isn't good since he is the only addition to the worst line in the league last season.

I know somebody with season tickets that sells most of them on Stub Hub. Great seats too. His seats will probably go for double.

The Favre situation seems headed to one solution only...he will NOT be a Packer this year.

There is a complete lack of trust on his side IMO...and after his comments about his waffling in late March, which was reported to of happened, he said the following...

Quote:
Asked what stories have been "planted," Favre alluded to the reports that said he waffled on un-retiring in late March or early April. He said that's "just not the way it went down, at all."

He also expressed anger with the stories that alleged he had a team-issued cell phone that showed the Vikings were tampering with him.

"Again, that was bull on both parts," he said.

"Then," Favre said, "they tried to buy me off to stay retired."

He added, "So they can say they welcome me back but, come on, the way they've treated me tells you the truth. They don't want me back, so let's move on. I don't know where it's headed. We'll see."
If its true Thompson/Murphy made up that stuff about favre waffling in late March/early April, they should both be fired immediately. Simply unacceptable to treat your franchise player/legend hall of famer in such a manner.

Wow....I knew TT was an egomaniacbut I would NEVER of thought he would go to such lengths to keep a player of his team who absolutely DESERVES to of been there should he so choose.

Not good times in Packer land.

I've already made my feelings on the Favre situation clear, so I won't delve into that again. I just wanted to say that I don't think Ted Thompson is the only ego-maniac in this stand-off, I really don't.

I feel for Packers fans, I really do. But I think the rest of us are getting sick of this story. Not criticizing anyone for posting about it. I am referring to the whole situation in the media 24/7.

Completely agreed BBB. I think one of the reasons I've never been a big Favre fan is I've always hated how much the media has salivated over him over the years. But for some reason this story has me very interested. Maybe because it's him in a negative light for once, I dont know. Anyways, sorry to pile on the Favre news, but this one's kind of a big one: Favre left Packers TC today, and asked for his release again, and now reportedly he's sitting down with Thompson to iron out a deal for him:
http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/story/?id=2453...=topStory_main

I'm not surprised, and this is definitely best for all involved. Favre being there is just too much of a distraction for the team, and not fair to the rest of the players as they prepare for the season. I'm also not surprised Ted Thompson went back on his hard stance again, as he was taking some serious flak last night on ESPN radio by the hosts for not sticking firm to his beliefs when he allowed Favre to come to camp. They were saying this was the difference between teams like the Packers vs. successful teams like the Chargers, Colts, etc, where GM's stick to their guns and do what they feel is best for the team, no matter what anyone thinks. I'm sure Thompson heard about it, and its good he went back to his hard stance. GM's are paid to do what they feel is best for their franchise, not what the media/public thinks is best.

...alright, well I'm gone to Phoenix for the rest of the week/weekend for the Saints game, so you don't have to worry about me posting any more Favre news for awhile

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm really excited about Philly's WRs this year. Apparently Jason Avant has been absolutely amazing in camp so far and Hank Baskett is becoming McNabb's favorite redzone target. Baskett set a school record for high-jumping when he was in college and I guess McNabb's just been tossing him jump balls all camp.

Desean Jackson has also been looking really good and has been having no problems getting seperation from the DBs. Two days ago he beat both Brian Dawkins and Sheldon Brown for a deep catch. The guy has been unstoppable in one-on-ones. This team is going to be FAST.

Everyone had to have a depth chart submitted this week. Of course these are fluid but it might give fans of other teams an idea of where certain guys sit on your team. Especially rookies.

Here's the Broncos depth chart.

http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=134

Surprises for me? Eddie Royal. Never thought he'd be challenging for playing time at WR so soon. He's catching absolutely everything and has learned the offense extremely quickly. Also, a little surprised that Ekuban is still behind Engelberger on the end, but I guess coming off a major injury it is probably not unusual.

Packs "depth" chart....

Everything looks good...except for one crucial spot where the 3 competing for the job have a combined 59 passes attempted in their careers!!

As long as Woodson and Harris stay healthy and still have thaeir speed...the team will be very good on D....no idea how the offense will shake out though.

Interesting year to be a Packer fan.
