I could see people voting against gay marriage.

If there was a vote here I would vote against it. Wouldn't really get worked up about it if they were allowed but if I had to say yes or no to legalizing gay marriage in a vote I would say no.

Its all about a word....and its conotation.
Thats exactly it, its just a word. Let them have it who cares, we use it all the time. How many straight people get married divorced each year? And it has nothing to do with religion anymore.

It just makes me shake my head when I hear people not wanting gay people to get married. [/b][/quote]
That saves me from having to reply

Hey I agree...but the majority has spoken all over the place about it.

So they cant get "married"....but they can get "unionized".

Same thing, different word. However I am sure they feel differently.

One good thing to take from this (for those, like me, who were hoping Bush wouldn't win): look at voter turnout for this election! It'll be interesting to see what the numbers are... I think the youth really got into this one; I know a number of university students who were actively involved in the campaigns, etc. this time around to them!

And look at Illinois... Obama-rama!

ETA: overseas interest in this election has been soaring as well. In terms of reputation, well, I don't think the US looks any better to them now.

Please tell me why, I have yet to hear one good reason as to why we should limit two human beings from getting married.

In 20 years or so gay marriage is going to be allowed and people are going to look back at America in 2004 and go, "what were they thinking?"

Limiting a human beings right to get married, how stupid.

CNN seems to be really cautious this election. It is not only that they are unwilling to call Ohio as ABC and CBS have not done so yet either, but also the fact that they have spent a long time talking about not wanting to call states too early all night.

doesn't look like it unfortunately:

2004 not breakout year for youth vote

First-time voters made up about 10 percent
of the electorate, about the same as in 2000

Fewer than one in 10 voters Tuesday were 18 to 24, about the same proportion of the electorate as in 2000, exit polls indicated.

It is not like I will go out and beat them up or try to stop them if it is legal.

I just don't like it and don't feel that they should be recognized as equal marriages between a man and a woman.

If they get the right to marry good for them, they just aren't going to do so with my support.

I don't understand why people have such a hard time understanding that some people don't like the idea of gay marriage. You support I don't its as simple as that.

I am trying to learn here.

I don't lilke the idea of it. I don't want to give them any more support to their lifestyle.

I really don't need much of any other reason then the fact that I don't like it. I don't know why that isn't good enough.

Agreed.

I think its easy just to say "I don't like this or that"...but when it comes right down to it, is it too hard to list any reasons why?

Does it make you uncomfortable?

I can understand that you don't like gay marriage, but I don't understand why you are against gay marriage. Who the hell cares who gets married? What does it do to you?

People are "threatened" by gay marriage.

I have no idea why, though.........

They love each other, they wanna get married, how the hell does that affect you?

Please, share your reason with the rest of the class. Why would you vote against it?

I need a reason here, and no one is able to provide one.

I don't agree with a man and man being together. Especially when it comes to marriage. That is why I don't believe they should get that right.

I have said that if they get the right it wouldn't bother me all that much. It is just the fact that I would not give them my support in the act of voting for it.

Also, some people point to a "moralistic" type of argument. I don't get this eitehr... how does it affect you? However, this is one thing that I have heard anyways.
