The problem with the Pacific in my opinion is that it lacked journey from basic training to the battlefield that worked so well for Band of Brothers. In BoB I found I could connect with the unit members, where as the Pacific I felt I was dropped in the middle of the story without much background. The Pacific's episodes were also presented in a haphazard way, which was frustrating.

I still recommend watching both, but unlike BoB, I don't see myself re-watching the series.

I got through The Pacific. I would agree it was 6.5 out of 10, and inevitably compared to BoB.

Sort of like "Thin Red Line" vs "Saving Private Ryan".

I figure they were trying to attract a broader audience by including female romantic and family focus. Which was a huge mistake, because it isn't what makes most war historics interesting.

Overall I found The Pacific to be lazy Sunday afternoon fare.

If you haven't already check out Enemy at the Gates. Not perfect but an interesting look at the Soviets vs the Nazi's in Stalingrad in WWII. Mostly a cat and mouse sniper movie but pretty decent.

It's actually one of my favorite war movies...not as realistic as some of them of course, but pretty entertaining and refreshing since it's told from a fresh perspective. Having Rachel Weisz in it isn't half bad either....

Haven't seen that one, but good idea. Same with Cross of Iron....will have to add those two to the Netflix list.

All Quiet On The Western Front is an amazing movie considering when it was made and the message that is still powerful and relevant.
