The sixth studio set for the Jeff Tweedy-fronted band is less experimental and adventurous than Wilco's previous few efforts. It is the first Wilco studio album to feature the work of touring guitarist Nels Cline.
Just finished listening to the new Linkin Park album, Minutes to Midnight. Kind of an interesting album to listen to in a few different ways.
There definitely seems to be almost a split personality feel to this album. Half of the songs are good, heavy rock songs, the other half are lame ass radio ballads.
Songs that I really liked:
2. Given Up
4. Bleed it Out (LP performed this on SNL last weekend, good tune albeit slightly repetitive)
6. What I've done
8. No More Sorrow (Metallica fans, listen to this song and note at the 47 second mark if that riff sounds familiar! Due to the Rick Rubin influence?)
So yeah, not the greatest album, but still some decent tunes. Here is hoping that Chester does a solo album, cause that would be cool!
I'm probably the biggest LP fan and I have given it a couple listens and yeah, the songs you listed definitely stand out from the rest. Given Up and No More Sorrow are my favs. The slower songs are really growing on me and I find myself flipping the track to Valentine's Day and number 7, can't remember what it's called.
To be honest, I really like this CD, having said that, it would have to take a lot for me not to like a CD that LP makes. You can tell they are trying something totally different for them and I think you have to give them credit. A big knock on Linkin was that their earlier stuff sounded the same, you can't say that about Minutes to Midnight. You may not like it, fine, but don't tell me that it sounds the same as their old stuff.
After all that, I think that this is easily my least favorite of the three major releases.
Ozzy... Black Rain. First studio album in something like six years. Just heard it. Freaking great!!! Zakk Wylde is scorching on this bad boy, especially on the first single, I don't Wanna Stop.
And just heard the new Linkin Park, and it's not that bad. Seems Linkin Park has developed a little "Nickleback Syndrome" and their fame has made them unpopular with the "cool kids". Pretty decent album for a group that is trying to let their sound evolve, even if it does sound forced at times.
^^^ ZAKK is still going? Nice! Ozzy had agreat comeback album in Ozmosis but I found everything after that pretty weak. I hope this changes my ideas.
Marilyn Manson's new album comes out on the first week of June. I will say, not his best. Pretty good, but not amazing. I'll still probably pick it up.
I Think I've listened to Trents Year zero about 200 times by now though. If you don't have it. Pick IT UP!
I have not heard any of it yet, but for the first time I might not actually pick up a Rush album. The last few were duds, and they have not made a great album since Grace Under Pressure 20 years ago.
If anyone else cares, and im pretty skeptical about that, but.....
New Holly McNarland on June 5, 2007
One of the most dynamic voices I've ever heard. Not everything she does is my cup of tea and with each album she gets a little more mellow. Prefer Sour Pie and some of the numb album. For a few bucks on itunes I pick up pretty much anything I have a pssing interest in so will probably download a couple of songs from it anyways.

If you prefer the more angst ridden stuff from Holly you should check out "Dear Pain" which can be heard here: http://www.curvemusic.ca/
The rest of the album is prolly going to be more mellow as Im familiar with half the songs on teh track listing already, but Ive only heard them live and am curious to see what the studio version will bring

Agree for the most part, but they still put on a great show. Taking my teenagers to see them in the summer.
Have you seen the Rush in Rio DVD? It's really a good show to watch.

Rush in Rio was a horrible DVD. Awful sound, awful (unwatchable) editting. R30 is a far superior concert DVD.
As for Snakes and Arrows, it's growing on me. Still not great, but good and enjoying it the more I listen to it. I own nearly every Rush album, and think there are some great songs on everyone of them, but will agree that their last great album was Grace Under Pressure. Still, I really liked Presto and Counterparts.
There not a studio band. There music has to be appreciated live. Even Vapour Trails worked well in concert

I think I have seen that one (R30), but haven't picked it up. I will have a look, if you say it's much better, though I have to admit I enjoyed Rush in Rio.
Thanks for the tip.
Rush was the first concert I ever saw, back in the day), have seen them 4 or 5 times, always a great show.
And the Trailer Park Boys, appearances crack me up.
This Ola Podrida album is really solid, it's sort of a blend between Iron & Wine and Okkervil River. I have a lot of new albums to give a listen to over the next week including the new Spoon, Miracle Fortress, Art Brut, Justice and Apparat albums.
I'm looking forward to hearing Delores O'Riorden's (sp?) solo album. I used to be a really big Cranberries fan and I'm interested in hearing what she has to offer by herself.

From Entertainment Weekly...
Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris
The Queens' fifth studio go-round contains plenty of the sludge, fuzz, and raw rock & roll attitude you've come to expect from Josh Homme and friends, which here include Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas and repeat guest Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. Release date: 6/12
