I don't get what you mean. There isn't a double standard, anyone who violates the rules doesn't get a blue skill rating for it, they get an infraction (which is private).

Positivate or negative skill comes from posts that significantly add or remove from the quality of the board.

Moderators aren't part of either system, typically they don't violate the rules (and if they do, report it and the other moderators can address it). People who give skill points aren't moderators.

Meh feathers get unruflled with time

If you have any questions about the skill / infractions let me know (you can PM me), it's still a system in flux and your questions do help, most will get included into the FAQ in the future at some point.

I just want to make sure people have the correct understanding of the system.

I will use the PM in the future.

Right, Adam?
photon already kinda responded to this but I thought I would point out that those posts were deleted the same day they were reported. Infractions were also given out. If you have a problem with the way things are being run around here then PM the mods or Bingo. Dont take shots at us in threads like this.

I don't have the desire to search through threads on this subject, but why aren't we able to see who gave us the reputation? I received a negative one yesterday, and was given a BS reason...BS because I was told I was being off-topic, when it's clear I wasn't. This person just disagreed with what I had to say...and that's fine, but if the system is going to be used against people simply for having a different opinion, I am already not a fan.

Just wondering, is there a small committee that ranks EVERYONE? That's alot of work for those select individuals, and I think they'll get bored of it after a while and not rank them.

Might I suggest, rank them after they have a certain number of post (ie. 500) ? Or just positive ranks after 500 posts, but allow negative ranks for under 500 posts to filter out the trolls. It takes a while to learn the "style" of CP anyways and set an identity, ranking them early is a little unfair too. There's alot of examples of young posters to come to CP annoying, but learn the ropes.

My recommendation is:
Red - positive points for posts > 500
Blue - negative points for posts > 500

? black? - negative points for obvious trolls < 500 posts

This is just in hopes to alliviate the amount of work for the committee

If you have a problem with given skill, PM the moderator about it. That's exactly why the skill givers are anonymous; so they don't get bombarded with every negative skill they give out.

It is a relatively small group, but it's simple enough to give that it's easy to do it while simply reading through a thread.

Hm, interesting idea, though one could argue is the first 500 posts is where people need more feedback. I think the skill givers should take a newbie's newness into account, maybe giving positive skill a little more easily for good posts and being a little more judicious with the negative ones.

Is the problem with the newbie hyperactive fans or the trolls? Obviously I haven't signed up for an account in years but controlled registration fixes trolls who want to flood CP, and I guess thats in place since there's less trolls then one would normally expect.

What incentives to vets have of giving advice? I've been here for a few years and long enough that if I see a thread has degraded or a poster brings nothing to discussion, I'd just scroll through their stuff and ignore it. I'd imagine that's the same with most posters who have been here for a while. It's effort to 'guide' newbie's, and I don't see vets doing it.

I think negative control for newbie (<500) is suffice, by 500, they should have learned the ways of CP. If they don't, they can try their hand somewhere else. I think the method I suggested would work well in that sense if that's the way CP decides to go.

It has a lot to do with who you know...

Right, Adam?
Why do you assume I get away this those things?

Infractions are handled privately, I rarely get away with any of my personal attacks. Most know I tend to walk a pretty fine line at times, but I tend to contribute quite a bit as well. If that makes you angry, take it up with a mod instead of acting like one of your granddaughters.

If you have a blue thinkgy, whoop-de-do, keep posting, and I'm sure it'll go back.

You don't have any comments yet from what I can see. So you won't see anything intil the colour of your square changes.

.
In real life:

Firstly, I have no grandchildren.

Secondly,I would have "infractioned" your nose after your first rude comment.

Thirdly, you would have apologized for your rude comment, while tending to your "infractioned" nose.

Lastly, there would have be no more rude utterings from the aperture under your "infractioned" nasal passage and I would feel no anger towards you, whatsoever.

however, in cyber life, I guess one feels a little bit more comfortable "walking a thin line" and making "personal attacks".

Right, Adam?

Yikes....

This system has been implemented to make CP a better place. Im sure some of you disagree that it will work out that way, but should you not at least give it more than a few days to see if that's what happens?

Tim....just stop. Your point was made and im sure read by the mods. Sometimes it's OK to just let things go.

MMF...same for you.

And yes...same for me as well.....things need to change a bit around here, for the better. Lets let it happen shall we?

Awww, I'm blue... where'd that come from? Bah well. This system is broken if Adam Peddle of all people get's positive skill points. The master of throwing any thread at any given time off course unless it's his own and without any hesitation to try and publically attack anyone at will.

I don't mind being one of "The Others" It basically means I get to have more fun around here, I don't need to write articles, I just get to enjoy the site with no pressure. Suckas!
