The Swedish goalie totally overplayed it. No ball that is hit from the far with that kind of speed should not be going in the net. Maybe Cole caught the guy off his line, and if so, good on him, but having said that, the ball floated like a beach ball, should have been saved. Not discrediting Joe Cole, just bashin the Swedish keeper.

After playing their best game in the World Cup so far, England's top place finish in their group has to be bittersweet now that Michael Owen is out of the tournament.
"Newcastle United have revealed that he (Owen) has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament."
I was happy with yesterday's game overall, I thought that England did a good job keeping possesion of the ball...at least in the first half. I thought that both Hargreaves and J.Cole played a great game...trying to show old Sven that they can contribute.
I don't think that England are going to have any problems with Ecuador. As much as I would like to see Ecuador make it further I know that their World Cup is almost over.

Portugals B squad keeps Mexico down. Good job boys!
Holland vs Argentina will be good one tonight! Should I care who Portugal plays? They have beat Holland twice in recent memory and Argentina is fierce....

What a dream start today for Portugal B, but really, who cares, they are gonna play a very tough team and will be the underdog against Argentina or Holland. I am extremely happy about a 3-0 record in the first round, but I am so scared for Sunday. I think the Dutch can be had by them for sure, hopefully some Dutch guys get another yellow today and will have to sit out Sunday.

Things are looking bad right now for the Czechs; they're down one goal to Italy and down to ten guys, while the US is down one to Ghana. It'll be pretty amazing for Ghana to qualify over two teams ranked in the top ten in the world.

Is this simultaneous coverage driving anyone else crazy? It is virtually impossible to watch the first game without finding out who won the second game.

Not really, but in past World Cups I've watched one game and kept up with the second game online or through radio...I get a little WC crazy that way.
Good for Ghana, out of the African teams I had actually picked Togo to be a surprise team...which can still happen if Togo beats France tomorrow.
GO BRASIL!!!

Ya Ecuador killed me already - I hope the Aussies can pull through here in the next match, tall task though.

Not too worry mate, the Aussies will get at least a draw which is good enough for them to move on!

Wow, 2 mins in and the Croats have already scored... They need to shape up in order for my prediction to come true!

Australia with a late goal, they look pretty good to make it through. 11 minutes left. They really deserve it though, they've been far better than Croatia all game.

What a game, red cards to both teams now and a clearance off the line by the Aussies.

What a game! Aussies pull through! Unreal competition. Lazy teams like the Czechs could really learn something from Austrailia, or Croatia for that matter. Fighting hard right to the last minute. Great to see.

What's with the Croatian defender getting 3 yellow cards?
He got 2, the ref didn't notice..he played another 7 minutes until he got a 3rd at the final whistle.

Agreed, I really enjoyed that one - what a competitive game, alot of cheapness but vastly entertaining. What happened there at the end with the final whistle as the ball was going in the net though? Never seen that before.

Great Day for Football!!!
After allowing an early goal from Japan, Brasil were able to come back and tie the game just before half-time with a nice play ending with Ronaldo's first goal of the tournament. That goal made Ronaldo Brasil's all time leading goal scorer at the World Cup just inching away from Pele's long-standing Brasilian record of 12 goals. Everyone had been critizing Ronaldo's play at the World Cup so far, including yours truly but much to the delight of Brasilian fans Ronaldo played his best game so far in this tournament. Brasil would tally two more goals in the second half from Junihno and Gilberto, both of whom were playing in their first game. Ronaldo scored his second goal of the tournament at the 81st minute mark, a goal that ties him with German player Gerd Muller at 14 goals in World Cup play, a record that has stood since 1970. Brasil's 4-1 win over Japan not only guarantees them first place in group F, it also stretches their World Cup winning streak to 10 games. The last game they lost was the final of World Cup '98 against France. This game was the icing on the cake as Ghana's 2-1 defeat over the USA takes the American's out of the tournament. Ghana's victory gives them second place in group E which means they will have to face Brasil in the round of 16.

France is the next highly-ranked team in big trouble. They need a win today to advance, and right now Togo is holding them scoreless. It'll be another blow to my bracket, but I don't care, I'm pulling for Switzerland and Korea to advance. If France is unable to score today, that'll be just one goal for them in the last two world cups.

Well...good work Togo. I think that goal will be enough to get them through.
edit: I didnt mean just that goal, I mean with that one in they will probably get at least another one.
