Messy opening set in the Shapovalov Cilic match which Cilic takes 6-4. 8 combined double faults. No aces from either player. Shapovalov with a disgusting amount of unforced errors. 23 to be exact to 6 winners.
This match is winnable for him but he really needs to clean up those UE's.

Kinda depressing watching the special Ks. Both on the verge of breaking down. Thanasi's shoulder injury will surely end his career.

He went down easy without putting up much of a fight. I think it's fair to say by now that Denis is what he is. A journeyman player that's capable of having a couple of solid results in a year and nothing more.

Nice analysis jg, I went to bed after the 2nd set, I had seen enough at that point. Shapo was in bad Shapo form where he's going for too much and hitting off-balance (off his back foot).
Only 1 Canadian left in singles when the tourney started with 7. Help us Obi Wan Mboko, you're our only hope.

I think Vicky has a great chance to advance over Tauson later today. In my mind, they are similar players, both have big serves and groundies, but Vicky is the better athlete. Should be a good match.

She's a very exciting player as she's got good size and no physical limitations. Her serve is already very good and will get better in time. Only weaknesses I see as of now is that she sprays errors at times the footwork can get a little sloppy. I don't think it's a stretch to say she has potential to be the best Canadian ladies player of all time and maybe best Canadian overall. Just hope she avoids the path of other hyped young Canadians that were plagued by injuries or just couldn't take their game to the next level.

How many Canadians have been plagued by injuries? Milos, Genie, Bianca.
Are we doing something wrong?

No, I don't think so, I think we just need to acknowledge that tennis at the highest level is a brutal game on the body. Very few players escape without some kind of injury that takes them out of commission during their playing career.

Vicky was up 5-2 in the tie-break, Tauson levelled it at 5-5, Vicky clutched up and won the last two points to take the opening set. You can't teach that kind of composure.

Vicky breaks and is serving for the match at 5-3 in set 2.
Edit: Broken to love. Oh well, still in good shape.

Vicky has three match points in that Tauson service game, but couldn't cash in. We play on at 5-5 in set 2.

Tauson just broke and is serving for set 2 at 6-5. She has really stepped up her game to stay in this match.

Well, we need a 3rd set to decide this match. I don't think Vicky did much wrong to be honest, Tauson just came up with the goods when needed most.

The purple patch that Tauson found at the end of set 2 might be over. Of course, she could find it again, but Vicky has stopped the run of games for the Dane.

Big service game for Vicky serving at 4-2 in set 3.
Edit: Holds with relative ease and finds herself one game away (again).
