Jarry is a minor upgrade at best. He's not going to save that defense and the mistakes Bouch bomb makes. Also I always thought Kulak was a really solid bottom pairing guy for them, seems weird to move him.
I find this trade generally quite funny, and very in keeping with Edmonton being a horse!@#$ organization outside of their ability to draft Draisaitl and McDavid.
Jarry is 3 years older, and pretty much exactly the same tier of goalie as Skinner.
They lost a 2nd round pick, and I don't think materially improved their team.
Irrelevancy with a side of bleeding assets. Speaks to just how good Draisaitl and McDavid are, because their management is trash.

It's wild. They continued to blame goaltending when defense was the problem, so they make a complete lateral move goaltending wise while downgrading their defense.
It's just all so Oilers

Jarry has been excellent this year and has had a pretty good career thus far. Kind of surprised Pens dealt him considering they are in a playoff position and Crosby/Malkin are still there. Good trade for Edmonton.

As someone posted before, he’s got almost identical stats to skinner… pretty good career is very generous.
0.909 this season has him 16th, middle of the pack goalie.
2.66 GAA has him 21st. So bottom 3rd there

It is a coin-flip if Edmonton got better in net or not, but they certainly got worse on defence, but gained a little on the wings in depth at least (Poulin is 24 already, but he does have decent AHL numbers - but probably not much to see here).
Kulak is much better than Statsney. For a team that doesn't have strong defence, I think losing Kulak is a big hit. He stood out in Edmonton because everyone else (minus Ekholm) stood out for the wrong reasons defensively there. Kulak was fairly reliable.
Considering what Skinner was facing in Edmonton, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him take-off in Pittsburgh. He was difficult to hate in Edmonton under the circumstances, but now he will be easy to cheer for. Remember, him and his family were apparently getting death threats. Imagine playing with that hanging over you, plus behind that 'team defence'. So it really wouldn't surprise me if he just finds his game. Outside of his occasional gaffes (which often seem to be the result of poor communication, or him trying to cheat at times), I thought he was decent. I wonder what he will be in Pittsburgh. Wouldn't surprise me if we see Skinner's numbers in Pittsburgh to end up better than what Jarry was putting up in Pittsburgh.
Edmonton also gives up another couple of picks - they have nothing in the prospect pool. I do think they will be a team that can attract college free agents - not many teams have an easier path to the NHL, right? However, although they most certainly should be 'going for it', they are taking the Treliving approach to trades - slow cuts with players that don't really move the needle much. Jarry is not a bona fide starter (he was evenly split working as a tandem with Silovs this season), though he most certainly has been a starter in Pittsburgh before this season. Really decent overall numbers in Pittsburgh, but he always seemed to be a disappointment, right?
I think this will go bad for Edmonton. Although I don't really trust Dubas, I can't see him being so willing to punt this season while holding a playoff spot, right? Plus Jarry working as a tandem this season, rather than a #1? I expect Jarry's numbers to go down in Edmonton, but they may nosedive hard. He may be worse than Skinner.
Fascinating to follow for the rest of the season. Really happy for Skinner in all of this, plus Kulak should help Pittsburgh as well. Hope they both do well in Pittsburgh.

Skinner has been on better teams. And Jarry is a big reason why the Pens are in a playoff spot this year, which no one thought they would be.
