TQL was roughly a third funded by public funds, but most notably it was the city that took on the entirety of the $250M worth of bonds to fund the construction which are to be paid back via FC Cincinatti's lease payments as the stadium operator until they own it and the land it is on after the 45-year lease it up (because they're leasing, and don't own, there's no property taxes they need to worry about for those 45 years). Geodis Park is a similar deal. City takes on the bonds, team gets to use lease payments as paying for it's portion of construction. This is basically how the Flames and Oilers portions of their arena deals are structured. City takes on construction debt and is repaid via lease payments.

Lower.com had about $100M of public funds (also only charge the Crew $10/year to lease it, and paid $50M to convert the old stadium into a training facility which is nice of them)

Audi Field differs because some sources don't count 'buying the land and prepping it for the stadium' but the cost was $400-450M and DC United put up $150M, so do with that what you will. They're now asking for public money to put a roof on the stadium.

$200M of Mercedes Benz is funded by the hotel tax, and another $50M in donated land and forefeited sales taxes.

tl;dr: AI Slop is sloppy.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I learned a lot and I'm reading about each stadium deal now.

The Whitecaps tried to build a privately funded stadium in the mid 2000s in a few different locations before they joined MLS. They were opposed by Gastown businesses and the Port of Authority and gave up. Here's some actual sources from the Whitecaps from back in 2008 as well as an administrative report from the city from 2007: https://www.whitecapsfc.com/news/whi...ouver-province https://www.whitecapsfc.com/news/van...-remains-dream https://council.vancouver.ca/2007020...ments/csb6.pdf

I seem to recall that BC Place was pitched as a temporary home when they first joined MLS but they're in season 16 now and I guess just now are they trying again, perhaps too late.

Also there's a little stadium just South of the city that is privately funded. Only club in the country to own their stadium and have paid for it in full if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah I'm not really sure what they've been doing. Hastings Park isn't a quick option, it has just kind of become a potential option with the racecourse news but that land is privately owned and they're only just beginning their grievance process. So what has been the options between 2008 and late, late 2025 with the MOU?

Regardless of where is picked, you're probably looking at needing to stay in BC Place until 2030.

Friday games x 2
Saturday Games x 8
Sunday games x 4

I know they don't make the schedule just for me, but I don't like Saturday games and much prefer Sunday and Friday games. oh well.

April 12 home opener is pretty early for a natural pitch. 6 days earlier than last year. But there's a World Cup break for the group stage, so things will obviously be a little more compressed this year.

I'm in the definite minority as I'd like to see a few weeknight games thrown in the mix

I don't mind them either. It is a bit of a pain for some people after work, but it is a different vibe with the floodlights and all that. I guess we'll get a cup match or two which will be weeknights.

I'm not sure if anyone subscribes to my Cavalry calendar, but if you do, I have the 2026 fixtures in there already. Same link as previous seasons.

If anyone would like to add the calendar to their device or Google calendar, here are the links. Where possible, try to subscribe to the URL vs. saving the .ics file because then you'll also get any changes, cup games, etc.

No notifications, no spam - just a nice, tidy schedule from a calendar nerd. If anyone is able to click through and check my work, please let me know if anything needs changing or if you have trouble subscribing.

The links:

iCal to subscribe: https://calendar.google.com/calendar...blic/basic.ics

Google to subscribe: https://calendar.google.com/calendar...Z29vZ2xlLmNvbQ

Google in browser with a "add" button in the bottom left: https://calendar.google.com/calendar...Z29vZ2xlLmNvbQ

Both home and away, but I put the stadium in there as the location so it is easy to spot at a glance. Plus home team listed first.

Awesome Jimmy, thanks again! Quick suggestion - would it be possible to have the away games in a slightly paler red colour? As I'm not going to them and potentially just watching them on TV, they're not necessarily as important to me. Not sure if others feel similar?
