That should be no goal.

Or even better get rid of the stupid kicking motion rule.

NHL looking for a way to make it count. They knew it should not be a goal but they saw the goalie stick direct the puck so they felt they had an out to call it good.

Right call. Hellebuyck knocked it into his own net. Kicking motion is negated when a player plays the puck. Which hellebuyck did with his stick. Just so happens he played it right into his own net.

Trying to make a save

That's like saying soccer a handball would be ok if on the way to the net the keeper knocks it in with his own hands trying to save it.

Dumb

All started with a fake tripping call 2 minutes into the game.

Refs have been brutal again.

I can understand this somewhat in theory but in theory if you railroad the goalie and an own player or the goalie puts it in their own net, is that not the same thing? Breaking the rule but the own goal counts?

Surely the puck has to be kicked “at” the goal for the rule to apply. Seemed like it was kicked across the goal if not even slightly backwards and Helleybuck deflected it in. So seems fair to me but what the hell do I know.

That's the goalie trying to make a save though. By your rule any puck that hits the goalie on an illegal play (kick, high stick, off the glove) should count.

NHL cant even follow their own ####ing rules:

49.2 (ii) - a kicked puck that deflects off the stick of any player (excluding the goaltenders stick) shall be ruled a good goal.

Not really. A hand ball is a dead ball. You can play the puck with your skates in hockey. It was a legal play by the Stars player Just a bad bounce for the Jets.

I don't think it would've counted if it had hit Hellenbuck. He redirected it into his own net, that's not the same. The puck was going wide of the net.
