Yeah that was dumb after a Tampa player has just been suspended for the same thing

I dont think those are the same, Guentzel played the puck and the hit was late. Barkov never touched the puck

Its a major penalty for interference...it wasn't just late it was VERY late. Its also late in a 5-1 game. Dumb either way.

I don’t think anyone is defending the hit. Clearly unnecessary and deserved more than a 2. But it can also be less severe than other plays

Just saying it was really dumb. Its 5-1 with hardly any time left, 5 minute penaly isn't much of a punishment. I have seen guys suspended for less, not worth the risk...they will take a look.

Wasn't even close to the same thing. Did Tkachuk target the players head? Nope!!

Neither hit was a heat shot, they were major penalties for interference...something you don't see often, they are similar. Sure the last one was "worse" but I don't think the score or time left is good in this case. I can assure you the Lightning a pushing for a suspension as we speak.
Bottom line its a dirty hit and dumb to put your team in that position...I know Tkachuk has a lot of fans on here still but its insane to think there wouldn't be immediate comparisons. How often do you see major interference penalites? Let alone back to back games with the same teams.
Lets be real here its not accidentaly late, Tkachuk is mad because they are about to score the empty netter so takes a run at a guy waaaay after he moves the puck. The game is over with a 4 goal lead and 5 mins left.

Tkachuk probably gets a one game suspension - it's all about equity in the NHL and going to be tough to justify not suspending Tkachuk after suspending Hagel

Its also on an empty net play that is already a sure goal...hit had nothing to do with preventing it. NHL doesn't like that

A fraction of a second is not late. At best that should've been a minor penalty.

Lol you cant be serious its way late, like not even debatable. At best haha. I mean they reviewed it and kept it at 5.
You can certainly debate suspension or fine but to suggest it might not be a penalty is laughable and not worth our time.

Wow. Those are some fun Tkachuk coloured glasses.
Guentzel didn't even handle the puck. He got into reach of the puck and immediately tapped the puck left for the break away. At the time that he moved the puck, Tkachuk was more than 15 feet away (and they were moving in the same direction toward the Panthers net).
Note: NHL faceoff circles are 30 feet in diameter.
With the puck already gone, Guentzel is just past the center dot and Tkachuk was outside of the advertising text that is outside of the line of the faceoff circle turning to make his hit. 15+ feet away and he had to change direction to close the gap and then make his hit. Granted, he did close the gap quickly... but that only makes the situation worse considering the distance and timing.
That was a dumb penalty and I would not be surprised if it turns into a suspension with it being a major penalty at the end of a game.

Puck has already been passed at this screenshot...tad late lol. Travels 15 feet after the guy touches the puck while the other Lightning player is going in on an empty net. Its dirty as F.

Not sure what you're talking about? I said at best it should have been a minor penalty. If you only watch the slow motion replay it might seem like an eternity, but in real time Guentzel had just made a pass. In fact he was caught watching his pass. A clean shoulder-to-shoulder open ice hit on someone who was the puck carrier less than a second before does not a major, fine or suspension make. Unless the NHL wants to revise the rulebook.

I'm talking about the play...look at the picture above your take is beyond laughable. It's already a major under the current rules.
Its 5 all day long, was reviewed and called as such already. Fine or suspension is possible they are going to look at it, its all anybody was talking about post game.
To suggest its a boarderline penalty "2 at best" is just dumb

You contradict yourself here. Did he not handle the puck or did he tap the puck to make a pass to a teammate?

For two objects traveling approximately 15 miles per hour it would take approximately 0.34 seconds for the two objects to collide over a 15 foot distance.
I don't understand your argument as to how something occurring quickly over a short distance "makes things worse"? If anything, that gives more justification that it was a legal hit. Quite the opposite is true, if more time had gone by then that would, in fact, be worse.

It was already reviewed and deemed a major penalty...arguing it's a legal hit is insane. You dont understand the rules we get it.
