He was Elliott vs. Ducks bad against the Oilers.

That's a cardinal sin in Flames country.

Outside of the Dallas series, he was a terrible Flame and a total loser. That BOA playoff "performance" will forever taint his legacy in Calgary. Never thought we would have a worse playoff goalie than Trevor Kidd, but we did. His awful play in that series triggered the chain effect that let to the dismantling of the Gaudreau/Monahan/Tkachuk era Flames.

(yes I still have some unresolved anger towards him)
To be fair, he was also very good in the '21-'22 regular season. A ton of shutouts.

But we needed him to play in round 2 the way he did in round 1. He very much did not. I'm still annoyed about it.

Again to be fair, Tanev being out had a lot to do with it. And our supposed best line in hockey completely disappeared after the first half of game 2.

Gaudreau had to carry Tkachuk and Lindholm on his back and he couldn't do it

Sutter also refused to hard match Backlund against McDavid until later in the series.

His performance prob cost us Gaudreau re-signing with us.
Congrats on the 1mm surface layer dive into what actually happened in that 5 game series!

Do you hate the Oilers or not? This was the most important Flames playoff series since the Esa Tikanen OT goal.

Markstrom sucked ass and couldn't stop a beach ball even if he had an all time d pariing with Lidstrom and Rafalski in front of him.

The fact that he went from going toe to toe with an all-time series from Oettinger to being bested by Smith speaks to how much his play took at hit from round 1 to round 2.

Scattering the blame elsewhere is just silly.

Average numbers probably sends that series the distance.

Smith even had his own hiccups in those games.

God what an insult to lose a series to Mike Smith at that age.

I'm allowed to not blame one player for a playoff series loss and still hate the Oilers.

The team collapsed their game plan against the Oilers, exposing Markstrom, who couldn't get it done under that pressure.

To blame the goalie only is silly.

Nope .... lots of info above from Matt that shows how much the team got cratered by Oiler skill.

Blaming the goalie only is lazy.

I hate the Oilers. I don't consider them important. Contempt is a valid form of hate.

Wait…have I just entered a time warp? I thought it was 2025, but it doesn’t appear to be…Johnny is still making a choice and Marky is flopping around.

Can we return to the present-day?

Sheesh. Give it up….

Yeah for sure a lot of the Markstrom hate comes from him being a complete sieve in the 1st playoff battle of Alberta in 30 years. Totally embarrassing

Like Remembrance Day. NEVER FORGET!

But present day? Markstrom still sucks and I doubt the Devils make the playoffs this year even with an 8 point lead.
