Goalies aren’t fancy. So he’s fighting that battle. But if you use a peer comparison I think he outshines the others.

He’s comparable to the top goalies in the league. The other guys aren’t at their position.

Silver lining if he doesn't win is Lane Hutson was taken with the Oilers pick they traded for Brett Kulak

The Hutson thing is a farce. Overwhelming majority of his points are second assists. He's gonna get first place votes from MTL (obviously) and EDM (their media won't vote for a non-Oiler forward for any award, and definitely won't vote for a Flame). Other than that, he's getting nothing. Voters in ON will vote for Wolf or Celebrini (certainly not a MTL or PHI player). That just leaves the rest of the West (outside of central AB) and the rest of the US (outside of SJS and PHI)... Wolf is American, Celebrini is Canadian. That'll go however it goes, I guess.

Was mentioned in an intermission segment last game, but worth sharing here too. Love Ras having a side chat with the young Wolf.

Eric's entire article is a good one: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-rough-outing/

Quote:
“I got pulled in my very first American League game — that one wasn't a pretty one,” smiled Wolf of a 2021 debut with Stockton that saw him yoinked after allowing five goals on 11 shots.

“I don't know if I would call it a wake-up call, but just kind of a, 'welcome to the league, here you go.' You're thrown into the fire and the worst thing that could happen happened. You can't go any lower than that. All you can go from there is up.”
Edit: That would have been a rough one. Stockton is only couple hours from Gilroy, so probably lots of family and friends there to see him yanked (assuming it was a home game, which it might not have been).

It was at the Saddledome during the COVID season when "Stockton" played all their home games in Calgary.

That's great. He even knows the name of The Scorpion.

I was surprised how he knew almost every goalie on sight, even those from before he was born, like Freddie.

He’s a guy who wouldn’t need to make a lot of these saves…he’s so positionally sound and efficient in his movement. He so rarely gets out of position.

Dustins a complete gem. Even he knows his limitations. Complimentary of ALL the guys before him . Knows hes got a long long way to being great . His foundation is what's so incredible to watch.

I wonder how many goals have been off our D into the net this year? Lost count.

He knows to shut it down though and Danny Vladar IS pushing him to be better. If Vladdy was a bum and Dustin didnt HAVE to compete we might be in a different situation

Weve got 2 great goalies right now. Dustin is just getting started though.

From The Athletic's model today
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/622...wards-watch-2/

Frontrunner for Calder and seventh for Vezina.

Again, shouldn't even be a question who the rookie of the year is.

Whoever wins the Calder, there will be absolutely zero argument as to why they should've won over Wolf.

Still think a lot of this fanbase underrates him.

We have our next (and better) Kipper

Pretty cool story from Ryan Leslie, who shared that before Logan Thompson signed his extension, he was chatting with him in DC about Wolf and Thompson was saying, "imagine going into camp next year as a goalie, knowing you're competing against Wolf?!" Sounds like Thompson is a fan too.
