However, I bet that Necas' stock rises significantly, playing with MacKinnon, and Rantanen's falls off somewhat, in CAR.

Rantanen is dynamic. Necas isn’t.

It’s a significant downgrade for the Avs. They could just be trying to get assets because they can flip Necas and the picks.

Toronto should be trying to do the same with marner. It’s a downgrade this year for avs but losing rantenen for nothing would have been way worse

Necas is very much overrated on CP. He still disappears a lot and doesn't play his size. Whereas Rantanen just runs players over. Aho is about to get a massive production boost with Rantanen on his wing.

MacKinnon leads by example, and makes everyone better. Necas won't be disappearing on the Avs.

Aho will definitely be getting a boost though.

If Necas insists on playing center, he'll be getting second line minutes even strength and lesser linemates. Was getting kush minutes in Carolina.

So a high 3rd is worth 1.7 ish m cap retention? That's not the best or the worst.
