If they lose out on Lawler they should take a look at Keon Hatcher who was recently released by the lions as he's had a few really productive seasons with the Lions and would have instant chemistry with VA.

Yeah, the key phrase is "respecting the cap" - Obviously, the Elks are going to be over the cap with all the signings they have made thus far.

Boy it's increasingly looking like the CFL salary cap no longer matters. The way things are going there's going to be more teams over the cap than under. I think the CFL needs to increase the penalties for exceeding it because it appears that teams now have to exceed the salary cap to compete on equal footing.

Is it just me or has Montreal been very quiet in free agency thus far? They have signed a couple of offensive linemen, but nothing splashy.

I believe Hatcher has signed a new deal with BC. A disappointing start to free agency but there are still good players available, especially at WR.

Stamps bringing back a former U of C Dino - I like it.

The Calgary Stampeders have agreed to terms with Canadian running back Jeshrun Antwi, per sources.

Pending free agents can negotiate with teams across the league during the current window, which closes on February 9. Players can agree to terms on a contract with a particular team for 2025, however, these deals aren’t legally binding and can’t be finalized or made official until after free agency opens on February 11.

I thought this guy was pretty good for the Elks last season - Could be another fine addition by DD.

The Calgary Stampeders have agreed to terms on a contract with veteran receiver Tevin Jones, per sources.

The six-foot-one, 225-pound native of Amory, Miss. made 40 catches for 731 yards, rushed twice for 13 yards, and scored six total touchdowns with the Edmonton Elks this past season, averaging a league-leading 18.3 yards per reception (min. 20 catches).

I read somewhere that said they were going to be very quiet in free agency.

I suppose these signings mean the Stamps are moving on from Michel.

Grey Cup MVP Nick Arbuckle is returning to the Argos...

The Toronto Argonauts have re-signed American quarterback Nick Arbuckle.

The 31-year-old native of Camarillo, Calif. threw for 799 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions this past season, going 1-0 as a starter in the regular season.

Arbuckle was pressed into action during the club’s postseason run when Chad Kelly suffered a fractured leg in the East Final. He helped the team close out an upset win over the Montreal Alouettes before leading Toronto to a surprise Grey Cup victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers the following week.

Sizable jump to the CFL salary cap for 2025...

The CFL’s salary cap for the 2025 season has jumped over $400,000 due to increased league revenues, per sources.

Teams expected the salary cap limit to be $5.65 million for the 2025 season. However, it has jumped by $412,000 to $6,062,365 million — a 7.3 percent increase. The lift comes from the revenue growth sharing model in the collective bargaining agreement.

“This increase is a direct result of the dedication and sacrifices of our members, both past and present,” CFLPA president Solomon Elimimian said in a memo to union members. “For too long, salary cap growth has lagged behind the economic realities. With this adjustment, we’re seeing a much-needed correction, one that finally catches up to the rate of inflation and prioritizes the financial well-being of CFL players.”

This might explain some of the sizeable contracts that have been offered in the last couple of weeks.

The Calgary Stampeders have agreed to terms with Canadian defensive back Godfrey Onyeka, per sources. It’s a one-year deal.

The 30-year-old dressed for 18 regular-season games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders this past season, making 10 special teams tackles.

The Stamps are also bringing back FB William Langlais...

The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed Canadian fullback William Langlais. He was a pending free agent.

The six-foot-three, 228-pound native of Hull, Que. missed the entire 2024 season due to an Achilles injury.

“We’re excited to get Will signed for another season,” said head coach and general manager Dave Dickenson in a statement. “He’s a true football guy and he’s been putting in the work to get healthy. We’re looking forward to seeing him at training camp.”

What do you guys think, should DD give Micah Johnson a chance to retire as a Stampeder? He had a great season for the Riders last year, but he is 36 years old. Still appears to have some gas left in the tank and the Stamps need to fill some holes on the d-line.
