If he continues this level of play through 50+ starts and the Flames make the playoffs, definitely. But there's a long way to go obviously.

Hopefully Toffoli, Lindholm, Zadorov and Hanifin end up watching the Flames have more success than their teams.

No ill will for Tanny.

Edit: Oh this is the wolf thread

I don't have much ill will for any former Flames and I'm surprised when people do.
Except for Mike Smith
Eff that guy.

Well aren't you just a saint. Look everybody!

No one cares.

It's not about ill will per se, just enjoying when you can flex a little on the guys that wrote the team off as not worth sticking around for.

It's a part of the fun of the game to get your digs in when you can and doesn't go hand in hand with actively holding grudges on guys. None of it is personal.

And I like others was hollering for Hanifin sinking the oilers the other week.

But thanks for the unprompted drive by virtue signal.

Nov 22 article on the Calder race... Wolf an "honorable mention."

It's funny because the three guys they have as finalists are all compared only against other rookies. "Leads all rookies in assists, etc etc." Meanwhile the honorable mention is compared to the entire NHL...

Quote:
Dustin Wolf, Calgary Flames

NOTE: Per NHL EDGE stats, the Flames goalie ranks among the leaders in high-danger save percentage (.871; fourth in entire League), midrange save percentage (.918; 86th percentile) and percent of games above a .900 save percentage (72.7; 90th percentile).
"Look at these three rookies! Look at how awesome they are when compared to other rookies!" "Oh yeah, and here's this other rookie who's top 10 in the entire league... he doesn't count though."

Don't know what they have against goalies.

Simply put, what Wolf is doing is much more impressive given the company he's in.

He's ahead of the reigning vezina winner ffs..

But look at this kid who was healthy scratched twice!

uhoh Calgary Flames player getting attention for a major award- lets change the rules or create a new award, because we all know former 7th round undersized goalies playing on the Canadian prairies have many unfair advantages over the ultra famous first rounders playing in Philly and San Jose

a quick perusal (admittedly not with deep dive birthday checks) I think at least 5 or 6 teenage calder winners since the last goalie, with most other winners being 20 or 21

https://thehockeynews.com/news/how-a...nder-20-rookie

Take this season, for example. Dustin Wolf is a 23-year-old who had 18 games of NHL experience and 141 games in the American League going into this season. How are 19-year-old Matvei Michkov and 18-year-old Macklin Celebrini supposed to compete with that?

Maybe because goalies generally take longer to develop and even if they do have a ton of experience and have dominated at lower leagues, it's still nowhere near guaranteed that they'll be good at the NHL level, you moron? Same thing goes for forwards and defensemen too, but I guess sure, let's make another award for the whole 5 or 10 teenagers who play significant games in any given NHL season...

Because it's not the Teen Choice Awards?

Looks like the "Makarov Rule" applied once again to a Flame. Just moving the goalposts, so to speak.

I haven't followed NJ too closely, so I am not sure who has had the tougher starts, but I didn't foresee Allen being better than Markstrom this season, even if Markstrom was going to have a down year.

The bias against rookie goaltenders in the Calder consideration isn’t a Flames thing, it’s an NHL thing. Lots of goalies have had really good rookies seasons in the last 16 years.

Shesterkin went 10-2 with a 0.932 SV% in his rookie season and didn’t get a sniff.

Nedeljkovic went 15-5-3 with a 0.932 SV% and he finished 5th in Calder voting.

It’s down to games played. Goalies don’t get serious consideration unless they play at least 45 games. Wolf is trending towards those numbers, but it’s early to project games played at this point.

12 games obviously isnt enough for a calder so that is fair...half the work load should be though
